items from Rukka
In 1950 Roger Störling founds the family business AB Sportsbeklädnad Urheiluvaatetus Oy, which initially specialises in the production of jogging suits. The first products were made in the kitchen of an old farm in Kokkola on the Finnish west coast. In 1953, the first welding machines were purchased and production expanded to waterproof rainwear. Three years later, industrial production begins with the move to a new, much larger company building near the Kokkola City Centre.
In 1966 the company changes its name to Rukka Products and in 1981 to Rukka Oy. The name rukka is derived from the nickname of the company founder Roger "Rukka" Störling. The flags in today's rukka company logo stand for the letter sequence R-U-K-K-A in the internationally valid flag alphabet. A tribute to sailing, the former core business of rukka.
At the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition IFMA in Cologne in 1986, rukka presented Gore-Tex clothing for motorcyclists for the first time. Before that, rukka made a name for itself with robust motorcycle rain suits bearing the signature of the world-famous racer Berry Sheene.
More than 30 years have passed since Rukka AG sold its first products in Switzerland. It all started with a few PVC jackets and trousers (oilskins) for workers, fishermen, sailors and children as well as two coats for ladies and gentlemen.
In the meantime a lot has changed. The range of products is enormous today. The PVC range is still offered, but technically advanced materials such as Gore-Tex, fibre fur from Finnpile, fleece from Eybl, Beaver nylon and Ultra-Bretex from Wernerfelt are also processed today in various production facilities worldwide.
In the motorcycle sector, Rukka AG was one of the first to offer a 100% waterproof suit. Today, high-quality high-tech material is processed for bikers. Gore-Tex suits which defy wind and weather, which have detachable thermal linings and are even machine washable.
For children as well as for adults there are various possibilities to dress accordingly on cold and wet days. The robust children's rainwear, which is already offered for the smallest ones, is just as popular with the kids as it is with the parents. For the adults we offer various rain jackets, also breathable ones in different variations. Fleece and fibre furs for work and leisure are also part of the extensive range.
The range of clothing for the work area extends from original "double-loop fibre fur" to waterproof parkas and EN471-certified "professional" clothing. The "Profi" range has made a name for itself in the security and police sectors, as well as in fire brigades and road construction.
In addition, we can cater to individual requests even for smaller quantities, and have made jackets of all kinds for well-known companies. Not only for advertising purposes, but also for employee actions and for a uniform appearance (CI) of the personnel our mark product was selected. The selection of models, colours, designs and labelling options is almost unlimited.
All these items require an efficient and professional service centre. Changes, such as shortening or lengthening trousers and inserting spikes, are done just as promptly as replacing zippers and repairing smaller holes. Markings of all kinds are also part of the work of the Rukka AG service team in Tübach, SG. All this is only possible thanks to a loyal clientele that stands 100% behind our products.
