These small waterfalls and streams are often used by reptiles and amphibians to drink water and are therefore an important feature in any tropical environment. The waterfall stimulates the natural drinking behaviour of lizards (such as: chameleons, anoles, water dragons, etc…)Maintenance is easy, as the waterfall can be dismantled into separate parts. An Exo Terra Repti Flo pump is included to ensure water circulation. As a safety measure, smaller stones or pebbles can be added to the collection tank for smaller chameleons and frogs. Organic waste should be removed from the collection tank at regular intervals so that the water remains clean. Tap water should be treated with Aquatize to eliminate chlorine and heavy metals. Which terrariums are suitable for a waterfall?

Rainforest and tropical terrariums

Ideal for species with higher humidity requirements. A waterfall can help to keep the relative humidity more constant here – provided that the ventilation is set correctly so that it does not become "musty".

Paludarium

In paludariums, waterfalls are often a central design element: both the land and water sections benefit from circulation, and you can elegantly conceal the technology in back walls or hardscape.

Rarely useful. If at all, then only in very specific cases (e.g. as a small drinking feature) – in most cases, a waterfall is not suitable for dry climates and unnecessarily increases humidity.

Hygiene & safety: How to keep the waterfall animal-friendly

Water quality and cleaning: Stagnant water quickly becomes contaminated – movement helps, but is no substitute for proper care. Recommended: change the water regularly, remove deposits (biofilm, algae) and, if necessary, use filter material or a pre-filter on the pump (depending on the setup).

Splash protection and moisture management: Plan the water flow so that no water splashes into the substrate permanently. Areas that are too wet can lead to mould, especially in poorly ventilated terrariums.

Install technology safely: cables, pumps and connections should be positioned so that animals cannot reach them and there are no "tripping hazards". An easily accessible technical chamber saves hassle during maintenance and cleaning.
