Which material for terrarium?
The typical terrarium materials are glass, plastic, wood, and Plexiglas.
The advantages of glass terrariums are that they are transparent, and you can easily recognise the inhabitants of the terrarium. The glass is easy to clean and retains moisture. You can use them to make a paludarium.
The advantage of plastic terrariums is the material, as it is light. The material retains moisture as well as heat, which is ideal if you have an animal that needs a bit of both. One thing to bear in mind is that they are not automatically completely waterproof. If you use plastic, you have to make sure that there are no toxic substances in the material.
The wooden terrarium is suitable for steppe and desert animals, as wood retains heat best. The wood is ideal for building something yourself, however big you want it to be or what shape it should have, etc. When using wood, you should choose a hardwood such as oak or beech.
Plexiglas has the advantage of being very light, which is practical if you live in a household where you move a lot. You can see through it clearly, and it keeps the values stable (humidity or heat). Plexiglass is very adaptable, which means it can be made in different shapes or sizes to suit the needs of the animals.

Jedoch hat jedes Tier andere Anforderungen an seinen Lebensraum, die
individuell geprüft werden müssen. Je grösser das Terrarium, desto
wichtiger ist es, dieses mit der passenden Technik und Einrichtung
sinnvoll auszustatten.
Where should a terrarium be placed?
The location of a terrarium varies depending on the species. Regardless of which animal lives inside, the terrarium should be in a quiet place. Not next to a television or stereo system. The room in which the terrarium is placed should avoid direct sunlight, as this is not ideal for the animal. But it should be a light/semi-dark room. It must be a well-ventilated room, but make sure that there is no draught, otherwise the animal may become ill. It must not be a damp room as this will damage the equipment and, in the worst case, the equipment will break. (The terrarium should not be placed on the floor)
