Everything you need to know about basic dog equipment

After you have decided to buy a dog, you will still need a few things to make your new housemate feel comfortable.

IMPORTANT:
Be aware that certain products need to be adapted to the size and age of your dog.

Here are some of the items that are essential::

• Food bowl and water bowl
  = Of course, food and water bowls must not be missing. Both should be adapted to the size of the dog so that the dog can eat or drink well from them.
  
  

• Sleeping place
  = The dog basket or dog bed should be adapted to the size of the dog. He should also be able to stretch out completely.
  
  

• Collar or harness
  = It is up to you to decide what you want for your dog. There are many different collars and harnesses. Always take your dog with you, so you can see how it fits your dog and you will always find the ideal size.
  
  

• Leash
  = There are different leashes, it is best to think about what you are going to do with your dog and then you will find the right leash. There are the normal, adjustable dog leashes, the Flexi leashes, these are available in different sizes. If you like to play search games with your dog, a search leash or drag leash is ideal.
  
  

• Toys
  = Toys should always be available. You can build up a bond with your dog through play and he gets attention. But you can also educate your dog through play. Replace the broken toys, possibly also with other toys.
  
  

•  Specialist books
  = Specialist books can be helpful in training. Books about different trainings or games with the dog are also recommended.
  
  

• Seat belt for the car
  = If you drive a car and would like to have your dog with you, you should put on a safety belt. The dog is then secured in the back seat.
  
  

• Transport box
  = If you do not want a safety belt, you should buy a transport box. This should be adapted to the size of the dog. It is best to take it with you when you go to buy one.
  
  

• Food
  = You can often get food from breeders or shelter staff. But if not, check with the person in charge in time and ask what food you should buy.

• Dog brush
  = Depending on the breed, the coat should be groomed regularly. Find out from the pet shop which brush is best suited to your dog's coat.
  
  

• Grooming products
  = Depending on the breed, you have to pay attention to special things. Some breeds are more prone to eye or ear infections, or you may want to bathe your dog after a walk.
  
  

• Tick collar / tick protection drops
  = Spring is the start of the tick season. Get a tick collar or tick protection drops for your dog.
  
  

• Tick tongs
  = It can always happen that, despite the tick collar or tick protection drops, one or two ticks find their way to your dog. Always have a pair of tick tongs with you to remove them. Always examine your dog thoroughly after a walk.
  
  

• Chew articles
  = The dog can be kept busy by itself. The chewing article should always be adapted to the size of the dog, if it is too small, the dog may choke.
  
  

• Bowl pad
  = The bowl pad is ideal if the bowl does not have a particularly good grip and the dog moves it.
  
  

• Illuminated products
  = Especially in winter, when it gets dark quickly in the evening, people and dogs should be equipped with luminous products. There are safety waistcoats, light collars, harnesses and leashes with reflectors.
  
  

• Muzzle
  = Depending on the canton, these are compulsory for certain breeds. But even those who want to go abroad must have a muzzle. Get your dog used to it slowly. Take the dog with you when you go to buy a muzzle, so you can find the right size.
