Which lighting for the aquarium?

Today, all aquariums are lit with LEDs. LED technology has developed greatly recently and the light spectrum can be excellently adapted to daylight depending on the area. LEDs also consume less electricity than the old neon tubes. There is also no need to change the tubes because, unlike fluorescent tubes, LEDs do not suffer any loss of light. Neon tubes are only used in old aquariums and are no longer produced or sold.

How long does LED lighting last?

LED lighting is expected to burn for 50,000 hours, which is around 11.5 years with 12 hours of daily lighting. However, the manufacturer's warranty is limited to 2 years — unless otherwise stated. JBL offers a four-year guarantee on all technical devices when the product is registered.

How long should the lighting be switched on?

The day-night rhythm is an article anchored in the Animal Protection Ordinance and must be guaranteed. Daylight is primarily insufficient for plant growth and direct sunlight causes stubborn green algae to form on the front pane, plants, and decorations.

We recommend an average lighting time of 9 to 12 hours. Dimming the light in the middle of the time helps to regulate algae growth. With various control units, fascinating effects can now be created with LED light. Sunrise, clouds, thunderstorms, and sunset can be simulated. Sera even has a control unit in which the phases of the moon can be set.
