Depending on the species and the desired humidity, Forest Floor can be lightly moistened. Check the moisture levels regularly and remove soiled areas promptly. In terrariums kept very humid, ensure there is good ventilation.
Soiled areas should be removed regularly and replaced with fresh substrate as required.The entire substrate should be completely replaced at appropriate intervals, depending on the number of animals, humidity and soiling. The mixture consists of selected wooden components such as bark, fine roots, twigs and wood chips. After soaking or preparation, the pieces of wood sink and can be placed precisely between stones, on slopes or in small hollows. It is recommended to boil the material for approximately 20 minutes or soak it for 24–72 hours before use, and then introduce it into the tank gradually.
As this is a natural wood-based material, tannins may be released. In weakly buffered water, this can affect the pH value. The reproduction of natural-looking biotopes from the home of aquarium fish is just as possible with the attractive Plantahunter natural gravels as the creation of individual and exciting landscapes. Existing aquariums can also be enhanced and refreshed by adding decorative scatterings with deliberate colour contrasts.
To achieve a natural landscape, it is advisable to mix different grain sizes of the same type of gravel and also to add the gravel in different levels. If stronger contrasts are desired, use white or black varieties.
