As with any type of wood, a bacterial film may initially form on the surface. This is not mould and is completely harmless. The bacterial film can simply be vacuumed off and is also readily eaten by many aquarium inhabitants.
The delicate branches are ideal for planting with moss or smaller Bucephalandra species, and the subtle roots at the base allow for perfect integration into the layout.

What is a wabikusa?
The term "wabikusa" originates from Japan. It combines "wabi" (a form of aesthetic beauty and simplicity in traditional Japanese art) and "kusa" (the Japanese word for "plant"). Consequently, the term refers to the artful arrangement and presentation of aquatic plants in a spherical shape that combines the elements of naturalness, harmony and aesthetic beauty.
A wabikusa is therefore a special type of aquarium design. It is usually presented in small closed jars, but also in vases or glass bowls. Soil is used to form a sphere and the aquatic plants are then placed on top. In vitro plants and mosses are often used. WabiKusa jars are too small for keeping fish. Snails or small shrimps can be kept in large vases or the Bioorb.
A Wabikusa can be an underwater world, but the aquarium plants are usually kept emersed.
