Product information "JBL Mg Magnesium Test Set Freshwater"

JBL Mg Magnesium Test Set Freshwater - Quick test for quick test to determine the magnesium content in freshwater aquariums

  • Simple and reliable control of the water values in aquariums.
  • Determines the optimal magnesium content to check the fertilisation in freshwater aquariums.
  • Laboratory comparator system to compensate the inherent water colouring: fill plastic cuvette with sample water, add reagents to another cuvette, place cuvettes in holder, read values on colour chart
  • Use in case of problems with plant growth

Healthy aquariums with conditions close to nature
The right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants in the aquarium. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. With bad values diseases or algae can appear in the aquarium. To maintain a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly.

For each water analysis JBL provides water tests in the form of quick tests or colour change tests. These determine a certain value or several values in one go. With these water tests you can recognise algae problems and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium values etc.

Why test?
Along with calcium, magnesium creates the general hardness. Magnesium is, like potassium, a macroelement, which is necessary for healthy and vigorous plant growth. Tap water very often contains too low quantities of magnesium for aquatic plants, quickly causing deficiency symptoms. Despite a regular fertilisation of the aquarium water it can happen that too low quantities of magnesium are available and the plants stagnate in their growth.

JBL ProScape Mg Macroelements
JBL ProScape Mg Macroelements - Magnesium plant fertiliser for aquascaping Additional care for plants: supplementary magnesium fertiliser for aquascaping aquariums Dosing is dependent on intensity of illumination, Co2 supply and consumption. Healthy plant growth, prevents deficiency symptoms, ideal magnesium values Checking of dosage with JBL magnesium test for freshwater Healthy plant growth is based on the following three main pillars: A supply of light, a supply of CO2 and an adequate/optimal supply of mineral nutrients. The supply of nutrients is described by Liebig’s Law of the Minimum. According to this concept, the nutrient which is available in the minimum amount limits the growth of plants regardless of whether it is a microelement or a macroelement.  Microelements are trace elements which plants need in small amounts, whereas macroelements are used for growth in larger amounts. In a well-planted aquarium, both microelements and macroelements are consumed in large amounts. Particularly when the fish population is small, the microelements, as well as the macroelements of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, quickly drop down to the minimum. The macroelements can easily be supplied by using JBL ProScape NPK Macroelements or by adding each of the individual components, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and magnesium, separately. If the latter procedure is selected, it is recommended to check the water values with the JBL Test Set each time. As the central atom of chlorophyll, magnesium plays the decisive role in photosynthesis, and in the plant’s energy production from light as a result. Magnesium also carries out other important functions in the regulation of enzyme activity and other metabolic processes in the cells. The concentrations of magnesium in the drinking waters usually used in aquariums vary considerably, depending on the water supplier. It is advisable to determine the current magnesium concentration of the water with the JBL Mg Test Set in order to find the right dosage of the JBL ProScape Mg Macroelements fertiliser.JBL ProScape Mg Macroelements supplies tank water with magnesium in the form of water-soluble magnesium salts. As a result, the aquatic plants obtain the supply of magnesium they require. The normal dosage is 5 ml / 100 l of water for a very well-lit tank with >= 1 W / l of illumination and 2.5 ml/100 l of water for a tank that is not as well lit. The supply of carbon dioxide must also be considered. The following table shows recommended fertiliser concentrations according to the general conditions of the aquarium. As actual precise consumption cannot be predicted, we recommend regularly checking the magnesium concentration with the JBL Mg Test Set, especially prior to each follow-up dose.
