Their calm nature and impressive size make them a preferred meal for almost every insect-eating reptile and also for many soft-feeding birds. The chocolate-brown colouring of the adult animals makes them clearly distinguishable from Mediterranean crickets, which are deep black. Steppe crickets are particularly noticeable to terrarium keepers due to the males' relatively quiet calling and low jumping ability.In contrast to the Mediterranean cricket, the steppe cricket is not as productive.
