Dort bewohnt er die Elfenbeinküste bis West-Kenia und Nordwest-Tansania. Dem Graupapagei sein grösstes Verbreitungsgebiet ist die Republik Kongo und die demokratische Republik Gabun.Lebensraum Der Graupapagei ist ein typischer Baumbewohner. Sein Lebensraum umfasst tropische Regenwälder, Mangroven und Feuchtsavannen. Der Graupapagei hält sich gerne im Randbereich der Wälder auf, besucht dort auch Kulturland und Gärten, meidet aber menschliche Siedlungen.Haltung Die Graupapageien sind sehr gesellige Tiere und dürfen daher nie alleine gehalten werden. Die artgerechteste Art Graupapageien zu halten ist mehrere Paare zu halten, wobei das Geschlechtsverhältnis ausgewogen sein sollte.Graupapageien benötigen viel Platz und können daher nur in grosszügigen Volieren oder in Vogelzimmer gehalten werden.Die Volieren müssen mit mehreren unterschiedlich dicken Ästen, welche als Sitzgelegenheit sowie auch für die Beschäftigung dienen bereitgestellt werden.
