The lamp has a correspondingly strong focus, so that acceptable performance is still achieved even at distances of over 100 cm. By grouping several lamps to a single point, the operating range can be further improved and species-appropriate conditions can be created in typical zoo terrariums without having to suspend lamps in a way that is disturbing for the observer. As the technical possibilities are exhausted for this extreme application, the Bright Sun Zoo unfortunately does not achieve the usual UV service life of one year and should be replaced after 6 months at the latest. Advantages of the LED technology are low energy consumption, low heat emission and a long life of the light emitting diodes. Therefore, illuminating terrariums all night long is possible, without hindering the natural nocturnal drop of temperature as with other light sources. Die Ernährung wild lebender Landschildkröten richtet sich immer nach den natürlichen Gegebenheiten der Vegetation. In ihren ursprünglichen Lebensräumen ist die eigentliche Vegetationszeit meist auf eine kurze Zeit beschränkt, die in der Zeit vom Hochsommer bis in den Herbst von Trockenheit und Hitze abgelöst wird. Im Frühjahr ist der Gehalt an Rohfaser in den Pflanzen relativ niedrig und der Eiweissgehalt hoch. Im Laufe des Sommers „altern“ die Kräuter und Gräser. Der Rohfasergehalt nimmt demnach im Hochsommer zu, wohingegen der Eiweissgehalt dann stark absinkt.Um den Bedürfnissen des Organismus gerecht zu werden, sollte eine angepasste Zusammensetzung der Fütterung im jahreszeitlichen Ablauf vorliegen.
Landschildkröten sind Pflanzenfresser, die Anspruch auf qualitativ einwandfreies Futter haben. Aus der Beobachtung wild lebender Landschild-kröten sowie dem Studium von Körperbau und Verdauungstrakt wird ersichtlich, welche Nahrung für Landschildkröten am besten geeignet ist. Durch den gut ausgebildeten Blinddarm der Tiere sind sie in der Lage, aus rohfaserreichen, eiweissarmen Gräsern und Kräutern ausreichend Nährstoffe zu ziehen. Der Gehalt landwirtschaftlich genutzter Wiesen, die meist stark gedüngt werden, ist für Landschildkröten zu üppig und kann zu einer Vielzahl von Krankheiten führen. Das Futterangebot, das Landschildkröten in ihrem natürlichen Biotop zur Verfügung steht, ähnelt dem Angebot artenreicher Magerwiesen des Alpenvorlandes. Bei natürlicher, kräuterreicher Fütterung und guter Haltung erreichen Landschildkröten ein hohes Alter.
