Product information "JBL water test potassium"

JBL K Potassium Test Set - Quick test to determine the potassium content in freshwater

  • Simple and reliable control of water values.
  • Checks the freshwater aquarium fertilisation by determining the ideal potassium value
  • Quick test: fill cuvette with sample water, add reagents, fill turbid sample water into special glass vial until underlying cross is no longer visible, read filled in quantity. This value is equivalent to the potassium content in mg/l
  • Use with diatom problems

Healthy aquariums with conditions close to nature
The right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants in the aquarium. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. With bad values diseases or algae can appear in the aquarium. To maintain a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly.

For each water analysis JBL provides water tests in the form of quick tests or colour change tests. These determine a certain value or several values in one go. With these water tests you can recognise algae problems and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium values etc.

Why test?
Potassium is one of the macroelements which plants in freshwater absorb quickly and effectively within a few hours and can also store for a limited time. Growing plants require more potassium than other elements. As a result, potassium concentrations can drop to a minimum range, causing plant growth to stagnate, even if the aquarium water is fertilised regularly. Potassium levels in mains water are usually too low compared to those in natural biotopes, particularly with relation to calcium and magnesium concentrations.

JBL ProScape K Macroelements
JBL ProScape K Macroelements - Potassium plant fertiliser for aquascaping Additional care for plants: supplementary potassium fertiliser for aquascaping aquariums Dosing is dependent on intensity of illumination, Co2 supply and consumption. Healthy plant growth, prevents potassium deficiency Checking of dosage with JBL potassium test Healthy plant growth is based on the following three main pillars: A supply of light, a supply of CO2 and an adequate/optimal supply of mineral nutrients. The supply of nutrients is described by Liebig’s Law of the Minimum. According to this concept, the nutrient which is available in the minimum amount limits the growth of plants regardless of whether it is a microelement or a macroelement.  Microelements are trace elements which plants need in small amounts, whereas macroelements are used for growth in larger amounts. In a well-planted aquarium, both microelements and macroelements are consumed in large amounts. Particularly when the fish population is small, the microelements, as well as the macroelements of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, quickly drop down to the minimum. The macroelements can easily be supplied by using JBL ProScape NPK Macroelements or by adding each of the individual components, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and magnesium, separately. If the latter procedure is selected, it is recommended to check the water values with the JBL Test Sets each time. Potassium plays an essential role in all vital functions. In plants, for example, potassium is directly involved in stomatal regulation. In addition, potassium carries out important functions in the regulation of enzyme activities in the cells. Potassium is the third most important element of the macroelements taken up by plants. These are able to take up more potassium than they actually need and store it in the tissue. In nature, there are unlimited amounts of potassium available. In tanks which emphasise plants, though, potassium very quickly drops down to the minimum, so that it becomes a limiting factor for plant growth. The concentrations of potassium in the drinking waters usually used in aquariums vary considerably, depending on the water supplier. However, drinking water generally tends to have low potassium levels, so that it is usually far below the recommended 10-30 mg/l. It is advisable to determine the current potassium concentration of the water with the JBL K Test Set in order to find the right dosage of the JBL ProScape K Macroelements fertiliser.JBL ProScape K Macroelements supplies tank water with potassium in the form of water-soluble potassium salts. The normal dosage is 5 ml / 100 l of water for a very well-lit tank with >= 1 W / l of illumination and 2.5 ml/100 l of water for a tank that is not as well lit. The supply of carbon dioxide must also be considered. The following table shows recommended fertiliser concentrations according to the general conditions of the aquarium. As actual precise consumption cannot be predicted, we recommend regularly checking the potassium level with the JBL K Test Set, especially prior to each follow-up dose.

The corresponding app is available free of charge. Refill set: 24 analysis strips for digital evaluation with the JBL ProScan app. Depending on the area of application, the app can be used in "Aquarium fresh water", "Garden pond water" and "Water" mode. If "Aquarium freshwater" and "Water" are selected, the app also automatically calculates the current CO2 content in the water from the values determined for pH and KH. Based on the results of the analysis, the app provides specific recommendations for action and information on how to achieve ideal water values. The "Water" function only provides the pure water values. The recording of the analysis strips and the calibration with the ColorCard should be carried out in bright daylight or artificial light. Direct sunlight should be avoided. The specified sequence of the app should always be followed during the measurement to ensure correct results. The app can be used in German and French. Instructions for use:After starting the app for the first time, a one-off calibration using the JBL ProScan ColourCard is required. This calibration can be carried out quickly and easily by anyone. Afterwards, the water values can be analysed and evaluated immediately in conjunction with the JBL ProScan analysis strips. Immerse the analysis strip in water for 1 second, shake it off and then place it on the reference colour card (JBL ProScan ColorCard). Select the water type with the free ProScan app (in the Apple store & Google PlayStore), scan the colour card like a QR code and wait briefly for the result (waiting time is carried out by the app). Contents for approx. 50 measurements. Incl. 2 reagents, glass vial with screw cap and colour chart. Refill reagents available separately Healthy aquarium/healthy pond with conditions close to natureThe right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants in the aquarium/pond. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. With bad values diseases or algae can appear in the aquarium/pond. To maintain a healthy aquarium/pond with conditions close to nature it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly. For each water analysis JBL provides water tests in the form of quick tests or colour change tests. These determine a certain value or several values in one go. With these water tests you can recognise algae problems and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium values etc. Why test? The well-being of aquarium and pond dwellers and the growth of aquatic plants depend to a large extent on the O2 level being kept as constant as possible. Oxygen is the “elixir of life” for all animal organisms. All animals in the aquarium and pond need oxygen to breathe. But the “invisible helpers” in the aquarium and pond, the bacteria that break down pollutants, also depend on sufficient supplies of oxygen in order to be able to carry out their useful activities. In aquariums and ponds with little or no planting and in marine aquariums the oxygen content always needs to be kept at an adequate balance using technical equipment. The water absorbs oxygen through the water surface. The more the surface is moving the more oxygen is absorbed. In case of dying algae and during the use of many medications the oxygen content in the water needs to be increased.

JBL Aquatest pH 6.0–7.6
JBL ProAquaTest pH 6.0–7.6 – pH water testJBL ProAquaTest pH 6.0–7.6 is a precise drop test for freshwater aquariums. It comes with a laboratory comparator system, colour scale, 2 glass cuvettes and reagent – sufficient for approx. 80 measurements. The JBL ProAquaTest pH 6.0–7.6 is an easy-to-use drop test for accurately determining the pH value in freshwater aquariums. The measuring range from pH 6.0 to 7.6 is particularly suitable for community aquariums, planted aquariums and aquascapes where a slightly acidic to neutral pH value needs to be maintained. A stable pH value is important for the well-being of fish, shrimps and plants. As many dissolved substances in the water are affected by the pH value, significant fluctuations should be avoided. The JBL test helps to detect changes at an early stage and to check water parameters regularly. Thanks to the laboratory comparator system, any natural colouration of the aquarium water is compensated for. To do this, one cuvette is filled with aquarium water and reagent, whilst a second cuvette serves as a control sample. The value is then read off the colour scale. The test kit is sufficient for approx. 80 measurements and contains reagent, 2 glass cuvettes with screw caps, a pipette, a comparator block and a colour scale.Your benefits at a glanceDrop test for determining the pH valueMeasuring range: pH 6.0–7.6Suitable for freshwater aquariumsIdeal for community aquariums, planted aquariums and aquascapingPrecise monitoring in the slightly acidic to neutral rangeLaboratory comparator system compensates for the water’s natural colourEasy to use with colour changeFor approx. 80 measurementsHelps to detect pH fluctuations at an early stageInstructions for useFill the cuvettes with aquarium water in accordance with the instructions. Add the reagent to one cuvette, place both cuvettes in the comparator block and compare the colour with the colour chart provided. After the measurement, the cuvettes and syringe should be rinsed thoroughly with clean water. When setting up a new aquarium, JBL recommends measuring the pH value daily during the first week. After that, a check once a week is usually sufficient, provided no particular problems or significant changes occur in the aquarium.Zoo Roco TipThe pH value should always be considered alongside other water parameters such as KH, GH, nitrite and nitrate. Regular monitoring is particularly advisable when using CO₂ fertilisation, carrying out water changes or keeping sensitive fish and shrimp species.
