The substrate for rainforest terrariums regulates humidity in the terrarium in a natural way: it absorbs moisture and then slowly releases it again. The hygroscopic properties are maximised by adding natural sphagnum moss to the mixture. Appropriate humidity levels support shedding and help to prevent respiratory infection. To increase humidity in well-ventilated terrariums or in terrariums where very high humidity is required, a substrate heater should be placed under the terrarium. Remove heavily soiled substrate spot-wise daily. Replace the substrate completely as needed.
