Taxiphyllum barbieri is erroneously called Java moss. “Real” Java moss, Vesicularia dubyana, has been gradually phased out since the 1970s in favour of Taxiphyllum barbieri. This is a challenging and highly variable moss that displays several different growth habits. It grows well even in heavily shaded areas and is very tolerant of different water conditions. Anchoring the plants to logs and rocks will help create moss landscapes.

The "Thailand" variety has the narrowest leaves of the three different H. corymbosa varieties. Under good lighting, the leaves turn a reddish brown colour, under normal lighting medium to light green. The small, purple-coloured flowers can also be observed in open aquaria. Cryptocoryne lucens is easy to care for and simple to cultivate. The plant produces narrow and pure green leaves. With a growth height of 10 - 20 cm, it is well suited for the foreground. It grows quite slowly, so the care requirements are low. As with many rosette-forming plants, only outer and older leaves are removed. However, complete pruning is also possible and promotes the growth of a dense plant population. The plants are cut approx. 2 - 3 cm above the substrate.
