Easy to care for and undemanding
Cryptocoryne lucens is easy to care for and simple to cultivate. The plant produces narrow and pure green leaves. With a growth height of 10 - 20 cm, it is well suited for the foreground. It grows quite slowly, so the care requirements are low. As with many rosette-forming plants, only outer and older leaves are removed. However, complete pruning is also possible and promotes the growth of a dense plant population. The plants are cut approx. 2 - 3 cm above the substrate.

Duckweed / Duckweed PortionDuckweed (Lemna minor L)
Floating plant
suitable for the aquarium
also suitable for garden ponds and biotopes
Duckweed – a natural floating plant for aquariums, ponds and feed productionDuckweed, also known as water lettuce, is a hardy, fast-growing floating plant suitable for freshwater aquariums, ponds and small rearing tanks. The small, green plants float freely on the water’s surface, reproduce very rapidly under favourable conditions and offer numerous benefits: They remove excess nutrients from the water, provide shade, improve the natural balance and are readily eaten by shrimp, snails, goldfish, ducks and other animals.Breeding and propagationCultivating duckweed is very simple. The plants are placed directly on the water’s surface and require no planting, no substrate and no CO₂ system. With sufficient light, calm water and enough nutrients, they reproduce by division. Under good conditions, the population can increase significantly within a few days.
A small container, a nano-aquarium or a plastic tub is sufficient for targeted cultivation. We recommend at least 5 to 10 litres of water, for a more stable and productive culture 20 litres or more. The water should be as still as possible, as duckweed does not tolerate strong currents, splashing water or leaves that are permanently submerged.Optimal conditionsDuckweed is highly adaptable and grows reliably in many freshwater environments. An ideal water temperature of around 18 to 28 °C. Temperatures of approximately 10 to 30 °C are generally tolerated, though growth slows significantly in cooler conditions. The water should be nutrient-rich, for example through the presence of fish, prawns, snails or very sparing use of liquid fertiliser.
A pH value in the slightly acidic to slightly alkaline range is suitable; approximately 5.5 to 8.0 is not a problem for most cultures. Water hardness usually plays only a minor role. Above all, sufficient light and a calm water surface are important. A lighting duration of around 8 to 12 hours a day promotes vigorous, green growth.Care instructionsSince duckweed grows very quickly, the population should be thinned out regularly. A completely closed plant canopy can block too much light from reaching other aquarium plants and restrict gas exchange at the water’s surface. You should therefore remove some of the plants using a fine-mesh net or spoon if necessary.
To maintain a healthy culture, it is advisable to carry out partial water changes regularly and to remove dead or yellowing plants. In aquariums with strong surface movement, a filter outlet directly at the water’s surface or very nutrient-poor water, growth may be slower.Benefits at a glanceDuckweed is easy to care for, fast-growing and versatile. They help break down nutrients, provide shelter for young fish, naturally shade the aquarium and are ideal as a supplementary food for many aquatic animals. This makes them ideal for aquarists, pond owners and anyone wishing to create a simple, natural plant culture. The delivery consists of a starter batch of live duckweed for further propagation. Please note: Duckweed can spread very rapidly and should not be released into natural water bodies.

Notes
The home of this as yet not clearly identified moss is Southeast Asia. The name flame moss derives from its special growth habit: The upright shoots are more or less strongly twisted and resemble flickering flames. Care and cultivation are easy, and radical pruning is possible at any time. Particularly attractive design effects can be achieved by tying the moss onto free-standing roots and thin root branches. The characteristic growth is especially well emphasised in this case.

The 'Little Bear' variety has been on the market since 1995 and is still one of the most popular red-leaved varieties. In the aquarium, the plant forms a compact rosette with a rust-red to deep dark red colour. Older plants reach a height of up to 25 cm. As with many Echinodorus varieties, emersed and submerged leaves differ enormously. The 'Little Bear' is bright green in the greenhouse and produces its first red submerged leaves after just a few days in the aquarium. Always a fascinating spectacle!

Notes
An attractive novelty from Brazil is the bear’s claw family plant Staurogyne repens. Its appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a “miniature Hygrophila”, but it is an excellent plant for the foreground. It grows very slowly, in good conditions even creeping over the substrate. Staurogyne needs intense light and a good supply of nutrients above the substrate. If the shoot tips are pruned regularly, the plant develops many new side shoots, resulting in a very beautiful, dense plant population. In “aquascaping”, this beauty can be excellently combined with Hemianthus callitrichoides.

Notes
A widespread stem plant in Asia. In the emersed stage it is small with densely leafed shoots. In the aquarium, the leaflets are much more pronounced and the colour is now light green. Limnophila sessiliflora is a good alternative to the more light-demanding Cabomba plant. As with many delicate stem plants, it should also be planted in a larger number of stems as a group. With good lighting, the tips of its shoots turn rusty brown.
Limnophila sessiliflora
An easy to grow stem plant, ideal for the background of the aquarium. It is characterized by its beautiful green coloration and rapid growth.Difficulty of growing: easyLight requirements: mediumCO₂ requirements: mediumGrown plant height: up to 60 cmGrowth: fastTemperature: 25-30°CPlacement in aquarium: Third levelOrigin: Asia6 cm cup diameterLimnophila Sessiliflora is an easy to grow stem plant, perfect for the third level of a tank. Native to Asia, the plant is characterized by pinnate leavesof light green color. They grow in groups of 6-9 leaves around the stem. Limnophila sessiliflora looks best incompact groups. Because of its structure, it makes an excellent hiding place for juvenile fish. The advantage of this plant is that it is easy to grow. It requires only moderate light, about 0.5 W/l. However, the plant adapts to the light conditions. In stronger light, the stems become thicker, the green color more bright and the structure more compact. In weaker light, the stems may elongate between the leaf nodes, which affects the appearance of the plant.
It can be successfully grown without CO₂ supply. It grows up to 60 cm tall, which makes it a good choice for planting the third level of the tank. Its intense growth helps the aquarium look quickly overgrown. The growing stems can be cut at any point and then replanted in the substrate. In this way, we can quickly compact the clumps. The prerequisite for rapid growth of this plant is a constant temperature of 25-30°C. Although Limnophila Sessiliflora tolerates short-term temperature fluctuations well, it grows fastest at a constant temperature. Because of its growth rate, additional fertilization of the tank with iron- and potassium-rich fertilizer is recommended.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 3-4 cm lumps and then place them in the substrate..

Notes
An impressive species of water trumpet is Cryptocoryne usteriana from the Philippines. Unlike many other water trumpet species, it grows permanently under water and is therefore not suitable for emersed cultivation in the greenhouse. Because of this fact, it is very rarely found in the trade. The bullous leaves grow up to 70 cm long, the leaf colour is bright medium green with a reddish underside. Under medium lighting, Cryptocoryne usteriana grows ideally in hard, alkaline water and is therefore ideal for cichlids from Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. The plant still grows quite well even with low CO2 supply and is very undemanding to care for. It looks confusingly similar to the better-known Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia.
Aquatic plants in vitro
In vitro plants are cultivated in the laboratory under sterile conditions. They are delivered in a 7 cm, closed container. The small plants are completely free of algae and snails and can be planted directly. This product group is ideal for smaller aquariums and nano cubes as well as for modern aquascaping. How demanding each plant is can be easily identified at the top right corner of the packaging. Before planting, simply rinse off the nutrient medium and portion the plant.

Notes
This variety has large but narrower leaves than the standard form H. corymbosa. Here too, the underwater leaves turn light green, but underwater the spacing between the leaf pairs is denser. In open aquariums, the shoot tips can grow out and quickly revert to their vibrant dark green colour. Good lighting and CO2-supplementation significantly promote growth. Large-leaved Hygrophila are best shown to their best advantage in aquariums of 100 cm or more. To achieve a beautiful effect, a group of plants comprising at least 10–15 stems should be planted.
