It is probably a natural hybrid of the round-leaved Rotala (Rotala rotundifolia) and Rotala wallichii. Both the stem and the leaves are light green in color. The tips of the stems may change color depending on growing conditions. It is characterized by its delicate structure. The leaves are whorled on the stem in groups of 3-6, up to 2 cm long and only 0.1-0.2 cm wide. It is described as moderately demanding. It tolerates temperatures between 20-28°C and likes soft to hard water. Optimum pH is between 6.0-7.0.Rotala sp. Nanjenshan' is a fairly demanding plant in terms of light conditions.
