Feeding plants for birds
Most birds feed on fresh, vitamin-rich, semi-ripe seeds in the wild. Fruits, leaves, buds, flowers, grasses, mosses, bark, clay, maggots, insects and much more complete the diet. However, the usual grain food on the market consists of 100 percent hard, mature seeds, which many bird species, such as parakeets and finches, only eat in times of need. In order to feed birds in a species-appropriate way, the shoots, leaves, flowers, buds or fruits of many different plants should also be offered to the birds. They are not only rich in nutrients, but often also have healing properties that keep our feathered friends healthy and strengthen their defences. This book presents around 200 suitable food plants, many of which are native species growing on our doorstep, so to speak, or grown in the garden and thus easy to obtain. It also describes which parts of the plants are used, how they are processed and properly presented to both native birds and popular ornamental birds such as finches, parakeets and large parrots. Preparation of drinking and bathing teas, use of bud therapy as well as mineral and animal feed supplements and a list of plants (parts) poisonous to our birds as well as practical health tips round off the whole. Every bird lover should always have this ideal reference book at hand when it comes to feeding their feathered friends. Due to its practical format, it is also easy to take with you when you are out and about and want to enrich the menu for your charges with plants you have collected yourself. A standard work that now fills the gap in the specialist literature for bird lovers!
