Sugar and diabetes in rodents?
Sugar (including fructose) must not be given to the following animals: Dwarf hamsters, degu and chinchillas - all these species are particularly susceptible to diabetes. However, other rodents and rabbits must also be given a balanced diet. Too much sugar not only leads to diabetes, but also to the animals becoming overweight.
