Ranunculus flammula (Lesser Spearwort) is a delicate but effective plant for the shore and shallow water zone of your garden pond. Low plants are particularly important at the edge of the pond so that the water surface remains visible and the transition to the surrounding area appears soft. Ranunculus flammula fulfils exactly this task: it remains compact, can be easily placed between stones or along edges and creates a natural, "grown" look. The long flowering period from May to September (V-IX) is particularly attractive. The yellow flowers bring small, friendly accents of colour to the edge of the pond for many weeks - ideal if you want a permanently lively edge zone rather than just selective flowering phases.
With a growth height of approx. 20 to 30 cm, the plant is suitable for the foreground: it can close gaps, visually soften edges and create a two-dimensional effect without becoming dominant. Planted in small groups, it creates a calm, natural impression; planted individually, it provides a targeted splash of colour.
The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes Ranunculus flammula very flexible. You can plant it in moist bank soil or in very shallow water - depending on how your pond is constructed. The 9 cm pot is particularly suitable if you want to place several plants in order to quickly achieve a cohesive look along the shoreline. For a neat pond edge, a plant basket can be helpful so that the plant is stable and can be easily moved if necessary. Thanks to zone 1-2, Ranunculus flammula is hardy and suitable for perennial pond installations.
It is a good choice if you are looking for a low, flowering plant for the edge of the pond that blends harmoniously into naturalistic planting schemes.
Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.
Zoo Roco tip: Plant Ranunculus flammula where you want a fine "bank edge" - for example along stones or at the edge of planting baskets. In practice, the plant often gets off to a particularly good start if it is initially placed at 0 to -5 cm and later (if desired) at a depth of -15 cm.
