Placing it against the cage glass creates an exciting area that acts as a sheltered retreat from the inside – whilst allowing a clear view of the animal from the outside. This is particularly helpful if you want to get to know the natural behaviour of your mice or hamsters better: when are they active, how do they explore new areas, and which routes do they prefer? The integrated tunnel encourages running through, hiding and short rest breaks. Such features promote daily activity because the enclosure is not just an ‘open space’ but offers different zones. For many small animals, this is exactly what matters: they feel more at ease when they can retreat from time to time and have several places to run and hide. At the same time, the Watchbox ensures that you can observe your animals without startling them or disrupting their routine. The Watchbox is crafted from untreated wood, visually aligning with naturalistic enclosures and being well-suited to small animal habitats. Additionally, the product has been certified by an independent specialist body for animal-friendly husbandry and animal welfare—a plus if you want to ensure safety and appropriate use when setting up your enclosure.Whether as an additional tunnel area, a quiet retreat or a viewing window into your small pet’s daily life: this Watchbox brings variety to your pets’ home and makes observing them together particularly exciting.Zoo Roco tip: Position the Watchbox so that the tunnel does not end directly beneath a drinking bottle or in an area with a lot of bedding dust. Many small animals prefer to use such observation spots if they also have a small bedding or hay corner nearby. Important: Check regularly that the mounting is secure and that no gaps have formed where little paws could get stuck.
