Dwarf water lily - Nymphaea pygmaea rubra
Dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ red (18cm)The dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ brings an elegant splash of colour to the water’s surface with its red flowers. Thanks to its compact form, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds as well as mini ponds and bowls. Ideal if you want a water lily that doesn’t take up too much space.Dwarf-form water lily – suitable for small water areasFlower colour: redGrowth: compact, for a controlled leaf areaArea of application: Garden pond, mini pond, tub/bowlTechnical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’English name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: redPlanting depth: -10 to -40cmFlowering period: June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ you bring the typical water lily atmosphere into the garden – even if your pond is rather small or you want to plant in a mini pond or tub. Dwarf water lilies are designed to unfold a harmonious effect in a limited space: Floating leaves on the surface and an attractive blossom, without the water area being quickly completely covered. The ‘Rubra’ variety creates an elegant, easily visible splash of colour with its red flowers.Especially with smaller garden ponds, balanced planting is crucial. Water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface and “close” the water effect. In comparison, a dwarf water lily remains more compact and is therefore a good choice if you want a calm, well-kept look and nevertheless do not want to do without the classic water lily eye-catcher. ‘Rubra’ is particularly effective when positioned so that you have a good view of the flowers from your seat or terrace – as the red shades clearly stand out against the water and greenery. For establishing, stable placement is important, ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container. This way the rhizome lies undisturbed, and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a compact water lily with a strong colour, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ is a fitting choice for a natural yet controlled pond design.Note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or by other unforeseen events. This includes both brown leaves and bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Put dwarf water lilies in a planting basket so you can easily adjust their position. If the plant is still small at first, start out higher (shallower) and lower them later – this often encourages quicker growth and flowering.

English water mint (9cm) - Preslia cervina 'Alba'
Sparganium erectum – Bur-reed for pond edge & shallow waterSparganium erectum is a vigorous bank and shallow water plant that naturally structures and stably “frames” pond edges. With a height of 60–80 cm, it is ideal for the middle to background of the bank zone. It can be planted at a depth of 0 to –40 cm and flowers from May to August (V–VIII).Area of use: Pond edge / bank zone / shallow water zoneFlowering time: V–VIII (May to August)Height: approx. 60–80 cmPot size: approx. 9cmPlant specifications: You bring a robust structural plant to the pond edge, ensuring a natural, “grown” bank appearance.Owing to the planting depth of 0 to –40 cm, bur-reed is flexible in use – from the moist edge to the shallow water area. With zone 2–3, Sparganium erectum is suitable for perennial garden ponds in many regions.Technical data:Botanical name: Sparganium erectumGerman name: bur-reed (engl. Burreed)Height (cm): 60 / 80 cmPlanting depth: 0 / –40 cmFlowering time: V–VIIIWinter hardiness zone: Zone 2 / 3Pot size: 9 cmWith Sparganium erectum (bur-reed / Burreed) you are choosing a proven plant for naturalistic pond edge design. It is particularly suitable if the bank area is to be not only flowering but also permanently structured. Bur-reed grows upright and brings stability to the bank zone – ideal for visually allying the transition between water surface and garden and for giving the pond an “embedded” appearance. With a growth height of about 60 to 80 cm, Sparganium erectum fits in the middle to background of the border planting. There it can serve as a green frame in front of which lower pond-edge plants and ground covers are shown off to particular effect. The flowering period from May to August (V–VIII) complements the season, even though for this species the structuring effect via leaf and growth form often takes centre stage. For a harmonious appearance, it is recommended to plant in small groups or as a recurring element along the bank line. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –40 cm allows flexible placement: directly into moist bank soil or the shallow water area, depending on pond layout. This allows you to control how present the plant is in the overall look. The 9-cm pot is ideal if you want to plant several specimens in order to quickly achieve a natural bank effect. For a controllable, neat pond edge, a planting basket can be useful – this way, Sparganium erectum remains in the intended spot and is easier to move if necessary. Thanks to zone 2–3, bur-reed is hardy and suitable for perennial pond systems. It is a good choice if you are looking for a robust, long-lived marginal plant that permanently structures the pond edge and blends harmoniously into naturalistic planting schemes.Note on shipping: We take great care to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the utmost care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by postal transport or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: Do not plant Sparganium erectum in the centre of the pond, but as a border plant along the pond edge. If you are unsure at first, start at about –10 to –20 cm depth and gradually lower the plant towards –40 cm – this makes it easy to find the optimal position in your own pond.

Water and marsh plant for pond edge and shallow water areasFlowering period: VII–IX (July to September)Winter hardiness: Zone 2–3Height: approx. 80–120 cmPot size: approx. 18 cmPlant specifications:Provides a near-natural bank design and clear structure at the pond edgeRobust and winter-hardy – suitable for perennial plantingIdeal as screening and marginal planting in marsh zones and shallow areasTechnical dataBotanical name: Typha angustifoliaGerman name: Narrow-leaved cattailFlowering period: VII–IXWinter hardiness zone: 2 / 3Height: 80 / 120 cmPlanting depth: 0 to –40 cmWith Typha angustifolia (narrow-leaved cattail), you can design the pond edge and marsh zone naturally and with structure. The plant fits especially well in shallow bank areas, where its upright growth creates clear lines and makes the transition between water and garden appear harmonious. Thanks to its winter hardiness (zone 2–3), it is suitable for permanently designed pond areas and can – in the right location – remain part of your pond planting for many years. The flowering period from July to September makes the narrow-leaved cattail an attractive companion in the summer and late season. It is especially effective in group plantings or as a tranquil background for blooming marsh plants. Thanks to the recommended planting depth of 0 to –40 cm, you can use it flexibly – directly at the edge or in shallow planting baskets in the water. The plant is delivered in an approx. 10 cm pot (basket/ready cultivation) and with a growth height of approx. 80–120 cm (depending on development stage). For good establishment, it is advisable to place the plant stably after planting and to choose a location that provides enough space for its development.Important note: Please do not plant this species in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes, as aquatic plants can spread depending on their environment. We pack your plants with great care to ensure they arrive in good health. Nevertheless, slight transport damage (e.g. brown leaves or bent shoots) may occasionally occur during postal shipping. Such visual impairments are generally uncritical for establishment.Zoo-Roco tip: When planting cattails in the pond, place them in a planting basket and limit the root space. This keeps the shore area tidy, and you can easily move or divide the plant if necessary.

English water mint (9cm) - Preslia cervina 'Alba'
Valeriana officinalis – Valerian for pond edge & bank zoneValeriana officinalis (valerian) is a stately, natural-looking perennial for moist areas around the garden pond. With 60–100 cm height, it adds structure to the bank zone without appearing artificial. The flowering period is from May to August (V–VIII), it is suitable for 0 to –15 cm planting depth and hardy in zone 1–2.Flowering period: V–VIII (May to August)Height: approx. 60–100 cmPlanting depth: 0 to –15 cmPot size: approx. 9cmPlant specifications:You receive a robust waterside perennial that naturally enhances the pond edge and adds height to the planting.Due to the long flowering period V–VIII, the edge zone remains attractive and appears well-groomed for months. Thanks to planting depth 0 to –15 cm, valerian can be flexibly placed in moist border areas and very shallow zones.Technical data:Botanical name: Valeriana officinalisEnglish name: ValerianHeight (cm): 60 / 100 cmPlanting depth: 0 / –15 cmFlowering period: V–VIIIWinter hardiness zone: Zone 1 / 2Pot size: 9 cmWith Valeriana officinalis (valerian) you are choosing a waterside perennial for the garden pond that looks particularly natural and gives the edge planting noticeably more height and depth. Especially with ponds, a “shallow” impression is quickly created if only low plants are standing in the marginal area. Valerian creates a beautiful counterpoint here: it grows upright, brings volume to the bank zone and can be combined excellently with lower pond edge plants that soften the transition to the water in the foreground. The flowering period from May to August (V–VIII) ensures that the pond edge appears lively for much of the season. As there is no indication of flower colour, this point remains neutral – in the garden, however, the overall effect of height, structure and flowering period is often the focus for valerian anyway. With a growth height of approx. 60 to 100 cm, the plant is ideal for the middle to background of the bank planting or for moist border beds next to the pond. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes Valeriana officinalis flexible in use: place it in moist bank soil or in very shallow areas, depending on pond layout. Especially if the water level fluctuates, it is advisable to place the plant so that it permanently receives enough moisture without being “too deep”.The 9-cm pot is ideal if you wish to plant several plants, to achieve a natural, full covering more quickly. Thanks to zone 1–2, valerian is suitable for perennial pond installations in many regions and is a good choice if you want to design the pond edge in a natural, low-maintenance way and with noticeable structure.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged by postal transit or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: If you want a natural bank look, do not plant valerian individually, but in small groups (e.g. 3 pieces) slightly staggered behind lower marginal plants. This way, the pond edge appears deeper and more “grown”, and the taller stems are more stable in the overall picture.

Glyceria maxima 'Variegata' - Colourful sweet grass for pond edgesGlyceria maxima 'Variegata' is a decorative pond edge grass with eye-catching, colourful foliage for a clear, fresh shoreline look. With a height of 60-80 cm, it is ideal for the edge and shallow water zone. The flowering period is from June to August (VI-VIII), the recommended planting depth is 0 to -15 cm.Area of use: Pond edge / bank zone / shallow water zoneFlowering time: VI-VIII (June to August)Height: approx. 60-80 cmPlanting basket: approx. 18 cmPlant specifications: The variegated foliage brings lasting structure and brightness to the edge of the pond - even outside the flowering season. Thanks to the planting depth of 0 to -15 cm, the grass is ideal for shoreline and shallow water areas. The 18 cm pot ensures a stable start and facilitates placement in the garden pond.Technical data:Botanical name: Glyceria maxima 'Variegata'German name: variegated sweet grass (also: variegated water grass)Height (cm): 60 / 80 cmPlanting depth: 0 / -15 cmFlowering time: VI-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1 / 2Pot size: 18 cmWith Glyceria maxima 'Variegata', you are choosing a pond edge grass that impresses above all with its decorative foliage effect. Plants that are not only attractive during short flowering phases but also provide structure throughout the season are particularly popular around garden ponds. The variegated foliage brings brightness to the bank zone and ensures that the edge of the pond looks neat and clearly organised - ideal as a calm frame for flowering bank plants. With a growth height of approx. 60 to 80 cm , variegated water grass is suitable for the middle to background of pond edge planting. It visually builds up the shoreline without completely "closing" the pond. It looks particularly attractive when planted in small groups or as a recurring element along the edge. This creates a natural rhythm that harmonises the pond. The flowering period from June to August (VI-VIII) complements the season; however, the focus is usually on the structural and foliage effect. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes Glyceria maxima 'Variegata' ideal for the bank and shallow water zone. Place the plant in moist soil at the edge or in a very shallow water area - depending on the pond structure.Delivery in an 18 cm pot gives you a good root volume, which makes it easier to grow and ensures greater stability. If you want to keep the edge of the pond particularly tidy or adjust the position later, a plant basket is a practical solution: this keeps the grass where it looks best and you can keep the design under control at all times. Thanks to zone 1-2, the plant is suitable for perennial pond systems in many regions and is a good choice if you want to combine a permanent, calm structure with a decorative foliage effect in your garden pond.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: Place the coloured water grass in such a way that it "draws" the edge of the pond: place it slightly offset along the shoreline to create a natural but clear structure. It is stable at a depth of 0 to -15 cm - the edge remains particularly clean in the plant basket and you can easily move the plant if necessary.

Ludwigia brevipes
Ludwigia brevipes Ludwigia brevipes is a multicolored tertiary stem plant. It turns a striking red-orange color that reproduces vegetatively.Cultivation difficulty: moderately difficultLight requirements: highCO₂ requirement: highAdult plant height: up to 40 cmGrowth: mediumTemperature: 20-28°CPlacement in aquarium: third levelOrigin: North AmericaShell diameter 6 cmLudwigia Brevipes (Ludwigia sans-tail) is a tertiary plant, although it can be used successfully as a secondary plant in larger tanks due to its tendency to overgrow the aquarium substrate. It is found along the northeast coast of the USA. In aquaculture, this plant has lanceolate leaves that are up to 3 cm long and 5 mm wide. It is characterized by multicolored depending on the amount of light, distance between stems or water parameters.Ludwigia brevipes, like all plants that turn shades of red, needs carbon dioxide, strong light and fertilizer containing Fe-iron. The initially green leaves turn red-orange only under favorable conditions. Ludwigia brevipes is described as moderately difficult to grow. It tolerates a wide range of water parameters. It needs a temperature of 20-28°C. It grows in soft to hard water, but definitely thrives better in soft water, down to 10 degrees. It is often confused with Ludwigia acurata, although it forms denser clumps than the latter. As with any stalked plant, propagation is easy. Simply cut off the top and plant it in the ground. Planted in a group, it creates a beautiful effect mimicking a sunset in the aquarium, especially when planted behind gray rocks.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 3-4 cm lumps and then place them in the substrate..
