Variegated calamus (9cm) - Acorus calamus 'Gramineus'
Acorus calamus 'Gramineus' - Colourful calamusThe variegated calamus is an attractive pond edge plant that provides structure and tranquillity around the garden pond with its grass-like growth. It is ideal for the bank and shallow water zone from 0 to -15 cm. At 20-30 cm tall, it remains compact and combines well.Area of application: Pond edge / shallow water zoneHeight: approx. 20-30 cmWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications: Brings clear lines and structure to the edge of the pond without being too dominantCompact and easy to care for - ideal for smaller ponds and edgesSuitable for permanent planting thanks to good winter hardiness (zone 1-2)Technical dataBotanical name: Acorus calamus 'Gramineus'German name: Colourful calamusHeight: 20 / 30 cmDepth: 0 / -15 cmWinter hardiness zone: 1 / 2Planting depth: 0 to -15 cmAcorus calamus 'Gramineus' is a pond edge plant that is particularly characterised by its grassy, tidy growth. The variegated calamus is ideal for visually calming the transition between the water surface and the garden: It looks natural, but remains compact and controllable. This plant is a particularly harmonious choice in places where you want clean lines - for example along pond edges, in shallow bays or in small shoreline areas. The ideal place is in the shore to shallow water zone. The specified planting depth of 0 to -15 cm allows for flexible use: directly on the moist edge or standing slightly in the water. Thanks to its height of approx. 20 to 30 cm, the calamus remains pleasantly low so that it does not obstruct the view of the water surface. At the same time, it provides structure between higher-growing bank plants and lower ground cover plants. The variegated calamus is particularly valuable in pond design because it combines well with many other pond and marsh plants. It is suitable for both naturalistic planting schemes and more modern pond designs that emphasise clear shapes and calm areas. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, it is also suitable for perennial pond edge planting. The plant is supplied in a pot (approx. 10 cm). For easy handling around the pond, we recommend using it in a plant basket - depending on the structure - so that the location remains stable and you can easily move the plant if necessary.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events (e.g. brown leaves or broken shoots). We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: Place the variegated calamus in the most beautiful spot where you walk past it every day: It looks particularly elegant when planted in small groups and its fine leaves are reflected in the water. For more control, we recommend using a planting basket - this will keep the edges neat and you can easily divide or reposition the plant later.

Marsh forget-me-not (9cm) - Myosotis palustris
Myosotis palustris - marsh forget-me-not pond edgeMyosotis palustris is a tried-and-tested pond edge plant for damp banks and the swamp zone. It brings a long flowering period to the pond design from May to August (V-VIII) and remains pleasantly compact at 20-40 cm tall. It is hardy in zones 1-2.Area of application: Pond edge / swamp zone / moist border bedsFlowering time: V-VIII (May to August)Flower colour: shades of blueHeight: approx. 20-40 cmWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications:They quickly green up damp pond edges and create a natural, soft transition from the water to the garden. The long flowering period V-VIII means that the edge zone remains attractive for months. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for perennial garden pond planting. Technical data:Botanical name: Myosotis palustrisGerman name: marsh forget-me-notHeight: 20 / 40 cmPlanting depth: not specifiedFlowering time: V-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 9 cmMyosotis palustris (marsh forget-me-not) is a classic plant for the bank and marsh zone around the garden pond. It is ideal if you want to create a natural, gentle transition between the water surface and the garden. The marsh forget-me-not really comes into its own in damp areas where many bedding plants struggle: It looks light, friendly and blends harmoniously into mixed pond edge plantings. One major advantage is the long flowering period from May to August (V-VIII). This means that the edge zone remains lively and visually attractive for months. With a height of approx. 20 to 40 cm, the plant is particularly suitable for the foreground at the edge of the pond or as a filling element between stones, stepping stones and other shore plants. Planted in small groups, it creates a calm, flat effect that quickly looks natural and reliably closes gaps. Myosotis palustris is particularly interesting for pond design if you want a planting that is not too tall and does not obscure the view of the water. Place the plant in evenly moist soil at the edge or in the swamp zone - there it can establish itself well. The pot (approx. 18 cm) provides a solid starting volume and makes it easier to place in the desired location. If you prefer a clear edge to the pond, a plant basket can be useful to keep the plant where it will look best. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for permanent garden ponds and is an uncomplicated addition to near-natural bank plantings.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: For a particularly natural look, place the marsh forget-me-not in small groups along the shoreline. If you are unsure how wet the location should be: place the plant on the wet edge first (not too deep in the water) - this makes it easy to find the perfect area by the garden pond.

The growth rate of the stems is enormous, so they have to be constantly pruned. Ceratophyllum is considered a "miracle weapon" against algae growth. The explanation is quite simple: the plant is a strong nutrient consumer and removes the algae's food source. The use of hornwort is recommended for every new aquarium.Wir sind sehr bemüht, dass unsere Pflanzen gesund und unbeschädigt bei Ihnen ankommen. Simply fill the floating plant basket with suitable substrate and add your chosen pond plants. Then just place the island in the pond. As it floats, you can change its position at any time – for example, if you want to rearrange the layout or find a better spot depending on the position of the sun. This allows you to continually adapt the pond’s design without having to laboriously remove plants from the pond bed or repot them. The floating island is particularly suitable if there is no suitable planting area in the pond or if you deliberately do not wish to use fixed planting baskets on the bottom. At the same time, planting on the surface adds more structure to the pond’s appearance. Whether as a single focal point or as part of a larger pond landscape, this floating plant island is a practical solution for anyone who wants to plant their pond in a versatile and decorative way – with minimal effort and plenty of creative freedom.Zoo Roco tip: Choose plants for the floating island that cope well with consistent moisture levels. To ensure everything remains stable, press the substrate down firmly and place the island in calm water to begin with – this will help the plants to establish themselves better.

Unlike traditional aquatic plants, it does not belong in the water, but thrives particularly well at the pond’s edge in moist, humus-rich soil. Precisely where the soil receives regular moisture but is not permanently flooded, it can establish itself well and enhance the visual transition between the bank and the garden.A semi-shaded spot is ideal, for example at the edge of a copse near a pond or in a waterside planting scheme with perennials and ferns. Ensure the soil is well-drained and free from waterlogging. During dry spells, regular watering helps to ensure the plant remains evenly supplied with moisture. If Bketilla is grown in a pot, good drainage is essential; in winter, a sheltered spot may be advisable.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive at your address healthy and undamaged. A small distance from the water’s edge prevents the roots from being permanently waterlogged – this is the most common reason why perennials planted near a pond fail to thrive.

Dwarf water lily – Nymphaea Pygmaea Rubra
Dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ red (18cm)The dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ brings an elegant splash of colour to the water’s surface with its red flowers. Thanks to its compact form, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds as well as mini ponds and bowls. Ideal if you want a water lily that doesn’t take up too much space.Dwarf-form water lily – suitable for small water areasFlower colour: redGrowth: compact, for a controlled leaf areaArea of application: Garden pond, mini pond, tub/bowlTechnical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’English name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: redPlanting depth: -10 to -40cmFlowering period: June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ you bring the typical water lily atmosphere into the garden – even if your pond is rather small or you want to plant in a mini pond or tub. Dwarf water lilies are designed to unfold a harmonious effect in a limited space: Floating leaves on the surface and an attractive blossom, without the water area being quickly completely covered. The ‘Rubra’ variety creates an elegant, easily visible splash of colour with its red flowers.Especially with smaller garden ponds, balanced planting is crucial. Water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface and “close” the water effect. In comparison, a dwarf water lily remains more compact and is therefore a good choice if you want a calm, well-kept look and nevertheless do not want to do without the classic water lily eye-catcher. ‘Rubra’ is particularly effective when positioned so that you have a good view of the flowers from your seat or terrace – as the red shades clearly stand out against the water and greenery. For establishing, stable placement is important, ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container. This way the rhizome lies undisturbed, and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a compact water lily with a strong colour, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ is a fitting choice for a natural yet controlled pond design.Note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or by other unforeseen events. This includes both brown leaves and bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Put dwarf water lilies in a planting basket so you can easily adjust their position. If the plant is still small at first, start out higher (shallower) and lower them later – this often encourages quicker growth and flowering.

Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’ – dwarf water lily white-yellowThe dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’, with its white-yellow flowers, adds a serene, elegant touch to the water’s surface. Thanks to its compact growth habit, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds or basins where a classic water lily would be too vigorous. Ideal if you want a delicate floral effect without the pond looking ‘overcrowded’.Dwarf water lily – suitable for smaller pondsFlower colour: white-yellowGrowth habit: compact, with a modest foliage and flower displaySuitable for: garden pond, mini-pond, pot/tank (depending on the setup)Technical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’Common name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: white-yellowPlanting depth: between -10 and -40 cmFlowering period: from June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’, you can create particularly stylish water features – even if your garden pond is rather small or you wish to plant in a mini-pond . Dwarf water lilies are designed to create the classic water lily effect in a limited space: the leaves float on the surface, whilst the delicate water lilies emerge from them. The ‘Alba’ variety impresses with a white-yellow flower colour, which has a very calming effect and can be easily combined with various pond and border plants. The choice of plants is particularly crucial in smaller ponds: water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface. The dwarf water lily remains comparatively more compact and is therefore ideal if you want to keep the water’s surface deliberately open. At the same time, water lilies create a pleasant pond atmosphere: the flowers draw the eye to the water, and the floating leaves give the pond a natural ‘centre’. For good establishment, a stable position is important – ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container, so that the substrate and rhizome are securely in place and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you’re looking for subtle, high-quality blooms and want to opt for a compact water lily, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’ is a suitable choice for a well-maintained, natural-looking pond design. Note on dispatch: We do our utmost to ensure that our plants arrive at your address healthy and undamaged. Despite taking the utmost care, plants may occasionally sustain minor damage during postal delivery or due to other unforeseen circumstances. This includes brown leaves as well as snapped stems. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: With dwarf water lilies, it’s worth placing the plant a little higher to begin with and then lowering it later if necessary – this usually helps it to grow more quickly. If you’re planting in a pot/mini-pond, make sure the water lily gets enough sun and isn’t shaded by plants around the edge.

Lobelia cardinalis 'Mini
Lobelia cardinalis 'Mini'Lobelia cardinalis 'Mini' is a green plant, recommended for the second level of the aquarium and for the paludarium. A very decorative species that is not particularly demanding.Difficulty of growing: easy Light requirements: medium CO₂ requirements: low Outgrown plant height: up to 20 cm Growth: medium Temperature: 15-28°C Placement in aquarium: second level Origin: North America Shell diameter: 6 cm Lobelia Cardinalis mini is a plant native to North America. In nature, it is found in wetlands and riverbanks. It is distributed from the Gulf of Mexico through the eastern states of the United States to southern Canada. It grows in the ground and has a well-developed root system. The feathery stems can develop auxiliary roots in leafless areas. Its small leaves are bright green, oval with a conspicuous pale central vein.Lobelias can be cultivated in aquariums and paludariums. It thrives in muddy soil as well as underwater. It tolerates temperatures from 15 to 28 °C and can also be kept in a pond. It thrives best at 20-23°C and requires soft to medium-hard water with a pH between 6.5 and 7.2.Without sufficient light, the leaves turn yellow, but in bright light the undersides of the leaves turn purple. It is not particularly demanding, but regular water changes, fertilizer and CO₂ support its growth. In the aquarium, lobelia should be planted in a group in the middle ground, but it is also well suited as a foreground plant. Pruning is necessary for the plant to grow well; use scissors to remove older leaves. You can also cut back the entire plant and use the cut tips as cuttings. Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then set them at intervals of 1 to 2 cm.

Salvinia auriculata (Salvinia auriculata)
Salvinia auriculataSalvinia Auriculata (Brazilian salvinia) is a floating plant native to South America. It grows moderately quickly so that its population can be controlled. Easy to grow. Absorbs nitrogen to combat algae. Propagates by spreading.Difficulty of cultivation: easy to mediumLight requirement: medium to highCO₂ requirement: lowHeight of the adult plant: 0.5 cmGrowth: moderate to fastTemperature: 22 - 24°CPlacement in the aquarium: SurfaceOrigin: South and Central AmericaCup diameter 6 cmSalvinia Auriculata (Brazilian Salvinia) is a floating ornamental plant. It is native to the calm, still waters of South and Central America. It can be found from Paraguay to Cuba. It owes its popularity above all to its original appearance. Its small oval leaves with a diameter of 10 mm cm are arranged opposite each other on an elongated leaf stalk. These leaves are covered with fine hairs that trap air bubbles, allowing them to float. Depending on the light intensity, they are wavy or flat. Salvinia forms a third type of underwater leaves on which the spores are deposited.Like all floating plants, Salvinia is recommended for shady waters . Its great appetite for nitrogen and phosphorus compounds makes this plant a good ally in the fight against algae. Salvinia has low light and nutrient requirements. It grows well in both moderate and strong light. As a floating plant, it does not require a substrate but draws all the necessary nutrients directly from the water. During the vegetation period, it reproduces by spreading, whereby the growth rate is moderate. This makes it easy to control its growth and remove excess plants. It grows to a length of 3-6 cm and likes warm, humid air, so it is advisable to use a glass or cover when growing it.It should be placed in such a way that no condensation falls on the plants. It adapts very quickly to the new parameters. However, it should be borne in mind that it will die if there is too little light. It thrives best in soft to medium-hard water at 22-24°C. The in vitro culture of plants is carried out in tissue culture laboratories. Thanks to the sterile production conditions, the cuttings are free from snails, algae or pathogens.Planting:The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed of the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Place the plant on the surface of the water.

Duckweed portion
Duckweed / Duckweed PortionDuckweed (Lemna minor L) Floating plant suitable for the aquarium also suitable for garden ponds and biotopes Duckweed – a natural floating plant for aquariums, ponds and feed productionDuckweed, also known as water lettuce, is a hardy, fast-growing floating plant suitable for freshwater aquariums, ponds and small rearing tanks. The small, green plants float freely on the water’s surface, reproduce very rapidly under favourable conditions and offer numerous benefits: They remove excess nutrients from the water, provide shade, improve the natural balance and are readily eaten by shrimp, snails, goldfish, ducks and other animals.Breeding and propagationCultivating duckweed is very simple. The plants are placed directly on the water’s surface and require no planting, no substrate and no CO₂ system. With sufficient light, calm water and enough nutrients, they reproduce by division. Under good conditions, the population can increase significantly within a few days. A small container, a nano-aquarium or a plastic tub is sufficient for targeted cultivation. We recommend at least 5 to 10 litres of water, for a more stable and productive culture 20 litres or more. The water should be as still as possible, as duckweed does not tolerate strong currents, splashing water or leaves that are permanently submerged.Optimal conditionsDuckweed is highly adaptable and grows reliably in many freshwater environments. An ideal water temperature of around 18 to 28 °C. Temperatures of approximately 10 to 30 °C are generally tolerated, though growth slows significantly in cooler conditions. The water should be nutrient-rich, for example through the presence of fish, prawns, snails or very sparing use of liquid fertiliser. A pH value in the slightly acidic to slightly alkaline range is suitable; approximately 5.5 to 8.0 is not a problem for most cultures. Water hardness usually plays only a minor role. Above all, sufficient light and a calm water surface are important. A lighting duration of around 8 to 12 hours a day promotes vigorous, green growth.Care instructionsSince duckweed grows very quickly, the population should be thinned out regularly. A completely closed plant canopy can block too much light from reaching other aquarium plants and restrict gas exchange at the water’s surface. You should therefore remove some of the plants using a fine-mesh net or spoon if necessary. To maintain a healthy culture, it is advisable to carry out partial water changes regularly and to remove dead or yellowing plants. In aquariums with strong surface movement, a filter outlet directly at the water’s surface or very nutrient-poor water, growth may be slower.Benefits at a glanceDuckweed is easy to care for, fast-growing and versatile. They help break down nutrients, provide shelter for young fish, naturally shade the aquarium and are ideal as a supplementary food for many aquatic animals. This makes them ideal for aquarists, pond owners and anyone wishing to create a simple, natural plant culture. The delivery consists of a starter batch of live duckweed for further propagation. Please note: Duckweed can spread very rapidly and should not be released into natural water bodies.
