This wheel has a diameter of 27 cm and is therefore suitable for dwarf hamsters and coloured mice. Other animals need a larger running wheel. It is important that they can always stand straight on the surface and that they do not have to bend their backs.What are the advantages of a plastic wheel?Basically, just like our wooden and cork wheels, this wheel is height adjustable and has a very quiet ball bearing.There are two decisive advantages over the natural materials.Firstly, it will egg less as it is not made of "working" wood at all. This means that the wheel will not warp with the fluctuating temperature in the room. And for another, it is much easier to clean.Cleaning becomes an important issue especially when it has to be done more often than usual. If there is an infestation of mites, for example, it should be rinsed daily. This is a strain that lasts several weeks and a wheel made of wood would become so brittle in the process that a risk of injury can no longer be ruled out.Tip: You should note that our ball bearing is only protected against splashing water and should not be immersed in water. However, you can treat the front with water as you like, the cork insert can also withstand quite a bit.Species-appropriate stand without scissor effectAs is usual with our products, the height of the wheel can be adjusted at the back as required. In any case, the so-called scissor effect is avoided, which could cause serious injuries to your little darling.Exclusively food-safe plasticWe use only food-safe plastic in the manufacture of these wheels. In other words, it is plastic that can come into direct contact with food without any health concerns and without changing its taste or smell. This factor is also relevant for toys, and consequently, of course, not in connection with our beloved pets.In order for an object to be considered food safe, it must meet high requirements. No substances may be emitted that would have a negative effect on health. For example, there are strict limit values for plasticisers, which must of course be met.Replaceable cork insertsLike our wooden wheels with cork treads, the plastic versions have corresponding inserts. These are glued to a food-safe and unbreakable plastic strip to make replacement easier.You can simply remove it, scrub it with a toothbrush and warm water and then put it back in the wheel. Alternatively, this insert can also be integrated into other wheels of the same size.It also makes it much easier to replace the cork insert if a new one is needed.

Gras-Streifenmaus Selbst ausgesprochene Mäusegegner können sich kaum dem Charme des interessanten Kleinnagers entziehen: Streifenmäuse sind ein ausgesprochenes Nager-Juwel.Aber: Als Streicheltiere sind sie nicht geeignet. Ihre Beobachtung ist aber interessant und ihre Tagaktivität kommt dem Betrachter entgegen. Heimat: Die Zebramaus  kommt ursprünglich aus Nordafrika: Senegal, Tanzania, Marokko, Algerien, Tunesien und Sudan.Die Streifenmaus (Lemniscomys barbarus) lebt in den offenen Grasländern Afrikas, sie gehört zur Gruppe der Grasmäuse. Gebräuchlich sind auch die Namen „Zebramaus“ oder „Zebra-Grasmaus“. Ihr Fellmuster ähnelt aber eher dem eines Wildschwein-Frischlings als dem senkrechten Schwarzweiss-Muster der Zebras. Eher ist sie als die „Gazelle“ unter den Mäusen zu werten, denn sie ist an schnelles Laufen angepasst. Beim schnellen Lauf berühren nur noch zwei Zehen der Vorderfüsse und drei der Hinterfüsse den Boden. Auch die langen grazilen Beine und der seitlich abgeflachte Körper entsprechen nicht mehr dem ursprünglichen Mäuse-Typ.Die Färbung der Zebramaus ist eine reizende Mischung des Massentonbrauns, das unter den schwarzen Streifen vermischt wird, Die Streifen gehen vom Kopf bis zum Rumpf über den Rücken und die Seiten der Streifenmaus. Ihr Schwanz  ist so lang wie der Körper (manchmal länger). Geben Sie acht, der Schwanz ist sehr empfindlich und zerbrechlich! Streifenmaus Haltung: Streifenmäuse hält man am besten in einem Terrarium, das gar nicht gross genug sein kann. In einem grossen Terrarium (100 x 50 x 45 cm) sind die Tiere auch wesentlich aktiver und häufiger zu sehen, obwohl ihnen in aller Regel mehr Versteckmöglichkeiten zur Verfügung gestellt werden können. Auch die nicht einfache Nachzucht gelingt nur in einem grossen Behältnis. Als Bodengrund kann Sand empfohlen werden. Streifenmäuse setzen ihren praktisch geruchlosen Urin immer in der gleichen Ecke ab, auch der Kot ist trocken und riecht nicht. Streifenmausterrarien kann man deshalb sogar als dekorative Schaustücke in die „gute Stube“ integrieren. Die Tiere lieben erhöhte Punkte (Steine, Wurzeln), ohne jedoch richtig zu klettern. Sie legen sich am Boden feste Wechsel an, die sie peinlich sauber halten. Störende Halme, Steinchen und Samenhülsen werden mit seitwärts wischenden Bewegungen der Vorderfüsse weggefegt. Nach dem Anlegen eines neuen Wechsels laufen die Mäuse manchmal minutenlang auf diesem hin und her, um den Boden festzutreten und die „Rennstrecke“ zu testen. Streifenmäuse sind kälteempfindlich, deshalb lieben sie die abstrahlende Wärme einer Terrarienbeleuchtung, Heizlampen hingegen werden nicht beachtet. Höhlen werden nur bei starker Beunruhigung aufgesucht, ansonsten bauen sich die Tiere oberirdische Heunester, gern aber unter einer Wurzel. Selbst feinste Heuhalme werden beim Nestbau noch zersplissen, so dass das fertige Nest einem Knäuel loser Haare gleicht.Die beste Weise, eine Zebramaus aufzuheben ist, sie mit den Händen "aufzuschaufeln". Versuchen Sie nicht, eine Streifenmaus am Schwanz aufzuheben, der Schwanz bricht sonst ab und wächst nicht wieder nach. Zur Käfigausstattung gehört: Sand als Bodengrund Heu, Stroh, verschiedene Unterschlupfmöglichkeiten aus Holz oder Kork, Äste zum Klettern Steine Nestmaterial - Heu (keine Hamsterwatte verwenden!) Futternapf und Trinkflasche Die Einrichtungsgegenstände sollten nicht aus Plastik sein, da die Mäuse alles zerknabbern. Futter: Übliche Futtermischungen für Kleinnager sind für Streifenmäuse nicht geeignet. Gerne angenommen wird Wellensittich- und Kanarienfutter. Haferflocken und Sonnenblumenkerne können beigemengt werden, aber nur mit Vorsicht: Zu starke Verfütterung führt leicht zu Übergewicht. Ein gutes nährstoffreiches Wiesenheu gehört zum Angebot, auch wenn es eher zum Nestbau verwendet wird. Leckerbissen sind Kolbenhirse und Mehlwürmer. Bei Grünfutter sind Streifenmäuse wählerisch, Salatgurke und Chicorée mögen aber alle. Wird Salatgurke gefüttert, kann frisches Wasser, das sonst immer bereit stehen sollte, weggelassen werden.Das Streifenmausfutter sollte mit einem Mineralstein sowie mit Vitamintopfen oder MuckiVit ergänzt werden. Zucht: Die Zucht der Streifenmaus ist nicht einfach. Als Erklärung wird gelegentlich angeführt, dass Streifenmäuse extrem empfindlich gegen Inzucht sind, denn alle in Europa angebotenen Tiere stammen von einigen wenigen importierten Exemplaren ab. Trotz regelmässiger Paarungen sind Würfe eher selten. Das Paarungsvorspiel beginnt mit ständigem Umherrennen des brünftigen Weibchens. Regelmässig an der gleichen Stelle hält das Weibchen an und erlaubt einem Männchen das Aufreiten. Bei der Verfolgungsjagd stossen die Tiere laute abgehackte Schreie aus – ein eindeutiges Indiz für die Brünftigkeit, denn ansonsten sind die Tiere völlig stumm. Streifenmäuse reagieren auf Nestkontrollen sehr empfindlich. Das mag ein Grund sein, weshalb die Tragzeit bisher nicht genau festgelegt ist. In der Literatur findet man Angaben zwischen 20 und 28 Tagen.Bei den Streifenmäusen sind die Weibchen aggressiver als die Männchen. Erwachsene geschlechtsreife Weibchen sind untereinander manchmal so unverträglich, dass es zu ausdauernden Verfolgungsjagden und Beissereien kommen kann. Lediglich der eigene Nachwuchs bildet da eine Ausnahme. Deshalb empfiehlt sich die Haltung eines Paares plus des eventuell sich einstellenden Nachwuchses.Zur Information - wir haben keine Streifenmäuse im Verkauf. Auf Wunsch können wir Ihnen jedoch welche besorgen.Bevor Sie sich für Streifenmäuse entscheiden, sollten Sie unbedingt ein entsprechendes Fachbuch gelesen haben.Für jede Tierhaltung gilt: Kinder (auch Jugendliche) müssen von den Eltern angeleitet, beaufsichtigt und kontrolliert werden.
