Special colour breeding in ferrets
Where does the "sea" in front of the "piggy" come from?
Contents:
The demands that committed owners of rabbits and rodents place on the accommodation of their pets have increased enormously in recent years. While most small animals were mainly kept in mesh cages around 10-15 years ago, the trend is now towards large, well-structured enclosures. Not only has the selection of animal-friendly housing options in pet shops increased, but creative self-built enclosures are also becoming more and more popular. More common for rabbits, but still less common for guinea pigs, coloured rats, chinchillas etc., are instead separate animal rooms in which rodents and co. can live completely cage-free. This special form of husbandry requires additional space and a hazard-free remodelling of the room. Setting up such a room involves more effort than keeping animals in cages, but allows humans and animals to live together more harmoniously. In the cover story of the next issue of RODENTIA - Nager & Co. we present various free-range husbandry systems for rabbits and rodents and provide suggestions for the successful organisation of cage-free indoor keeping.
