Rennmaus Rennmäuse sind sehr gesellige Tiere. In ihrer ursprünglichen Heimat, der mongolischen Steppe, leben sie in grossen Familienverbänden. Mongolische Rennmäuse leben in trockenen Steppengebieten, in denen es im Winter sehr kalt (bis -40 °C) und im Sommer sehr warm (bis +50 °C) werden kann, in unterirdischen Bauten mit mehreren Gängen und Kammern. Sie sind tag- und nachtaktiv, zur Zeit der grössten Mittagshitze haben sie eine ihrer Ruhephasen. Ruhe- und Wachperioden wechseln mehrmals am Tag. Haltung: Rennmäuse sollten nie alleine gehalten werden. Sie brauchen Artgenossen um sich wohlzufühlen. Einzeln gehaltene Rennmäuse sitzen oft lustlos in der Ecke und bleiben scheu. Erst zu zweit oder zu mehreren fühlen sie sich sicher, sind furchtbar neugierig und zutraulich.Am besten hält man sich zwei oder mehrere Tiere des gleichen Geschlechts. sehr gut versteht sich ein Pärchen aus Männchen und Weibchen, aber dann ist zahlreicher Nachwuchs zu erwarten.Die Hauptbeschäftigung der Rennmäuse ist graben! Fr. 20.-- Tierarzt: Je artgerechter und sauberer die Haltung, desto seltener droht der Gang zum Tierarzt.
