Der Javafarn ist die beliebteste Farnart in der Aquaristik und im tropischen Asien weit verbreitet. Die Art ist sehr variabel mit vielen Blattformen und Grössen. Aufgrund der Anspruchslosigkeit ist sie die perfekte Einsteigerpflanze. Am besten wachsen die Pflanzen mit den Rhizomen aufgebunden auf Steinen und Wurzeln. Eine mäßige bis normale Beleuchtung reicht völlig aus, wobei die Pflanze auch bei stärkerer Beleuchtung gut wächst. Oft werden an älteren Blättern Tochterpflanzen gebildet, die man an anderer Stelle erneut mit einer dünnen Angelschnur aufbinden kann.

The waterweed is perhaps the best known water plant at all. Due to their rapid growth, it is as algae preventive plant almost ideal. Even a so-called oxygen dispenser for the aquarium or garden pond this stem plant is known. As with most stem plants, the propagation is straightforward. The hornwort is a cosmopolitan plant that can be found in many bodies of water around the world. We found the free-floating stem plant in huge populations in a tributary of the Rio Miranda on the edge of the Pantanal in South America. The growth rate of the stems is enormous, so they have to be constantly pruned. Ceratophyllum is considered a "miracle weapon" against algae growth. The explanation is quite simple: the plant is a strong nutrient consumer and removes the algae's food source. The use of hornwort is recommended for every new aquarium.

Das kleine Pfeilkraut ist eine beliebte Aquarienpflanze mit sehr schmalen, bandförmigen Blättern. Auf den ersten Blick sehen diese den Blättern von Vallisnerien sehr ähnlich. Die Wuchshöhe der Sagittaria subulata var. pussila ist sehr variabel von wenigen Zentimetern bis zu 40 cm. Nur bei guter Beleuchtung bleibt das Pfeilkraut schön kurz für den Vordergrundbereich. Durch regelmäßiges Entfernen von Ausläufern mit längeren Blättern kann man den Pflanzenteppich kurz halten. Im mittelharten bis harten Wasser wächst diese Art am besten, bei der Wassertemperatur ist die Art sehr tolerant.

Die Wasserpest, so der deutsche Handelsname, weist schon auf die Wuchseigenschaft hin. Egeria densa gehört wohl zu den gutwüchsigsten Pflanzen überhaupt und ist vollkommen unproblematisch in der Kultur. Mit Heimat in Südostbrasilien und Argentinien, ist sie mittlerweile aber in allen Kontinenten eingebürgert. Bei der Sorte „Dichtblättrig“ ist die Beblätterung des Stängels extrem dicht und kompakt. Sie wächst auch sehr gut eingepflanzt oder freischwimmend im Gartenteich, ist aber bedingt nur winterhart.

Eine pflegeleichte, zarte Farnpflanze, die auch oft für Zuchtaquarien eingesetzt wird. Unter den Schwimmblättern auf der Wasseroberfläche fühlen sich z.B. Labyrinthfische sehr wohl, hier können sie problemlos ihre Schaumnester bauen. In der Pflege ist der Farn recht einfach, stärkere Beleuchtung und CO2-Gaben fördern das Wachstum enorm und es bilden sich besonders kräftige Farnwedel. Eine attraktive Neuheit aus Brasilien ist das Bärenklaugewächs Staurogyne repens. Ihr Aussehen erinnert ein wenig an eine „Miniatur-Hygrophila“, ist aber eine hervorragende Pflanze für den Vordergrund. Sie wächst sehr langsam, bei guten Bedingungen sogar kriechend über den Bodengrund. Staurogyne benötigt intensives Licht und eine gute Nährstoffversorgung über dem Bodengrund. Wenn man regelmäßig ihre Sprossspitzen beschneidet, treibt die Pflanze mit vielen, neuen Seitentrieben aus und man erhält einen sehr schönen dichten Pflanzenbestand. Im „Aquascaping“ lässt sich diese Schönheit sehr gut mit Hemianthus callitrichoides kombinieren.

Das Teichlebermoos Riccia ist weltweit verbreitet und besiedelt schwimmend Wasseroberflächen oder feuchte Böden. Erst Takashi Amano hat dieses schwimmende Moos für die Aquaristik bekannt gemacht. In viele seiner Gestaltungen ist Riccia als Vordergrundpflanze zu bestaunen. Kultur und Pflege sind sehr einfach: die Moospolster werden auf Steine oder Wurzeln aufgebunden und können dort schön aufwachsen. Der kompakte Wuchs bleibt erhalten, wenn man die hellgrünen Polster von Zeit zu Zeit mit einer Schere trimmt. CO2-Gaben fördern das Wachstum erheblich.
Wasserpflanzen In-Vitro
In Vitro - Pflanzen werden im Labor unter sterilen Bedingungen kultiviert. Sie werden in einer 7cm großen, geschlossenen Dose ausgeliefert. Die kleinen Pflänzchen sind absolut Algen und Schneckenfrei und können direkt eingepflanzt werden. Ideal ist diese Produktgruppe für kleinere Aquarien und Nano Cubes sowie für das moderne Aquascaping. Wie anspruchsvoll die jeweilige Pflanze ist, lässt sich ganz leicht an der oberen rechten Ecke der Verpackung erkennen. Vor dem Einsetzen muss lediglich das Nährmedium abgespült und die Pflanze portioniert werden

Vallisneria spiralis gehört auch zu den Klassikern in der Aquaristik. Die anspruchslose Wasserpflanze bildet bandförmige Blätter zwischen 0,8 und 1,5 cm Breite. Manchmal werden Blattlängen bis zu 1 m erreicht. Die Pflege und Kultur ist einfach und bestens zur Gestaltung einer grünen, lebenden Rückwand geeignet. Ausläufertriebe, die in den vorderen Bereich wachsen, sollte man rechtzeitig entfernen. Der Artname „spiralis“ bezieht sich nicht auf die Blätter, sondern auf die spiralig gedrehten Blütenstängel. Sie ist auch eine ideale Pflanze für Barschaquarien.

Die Sorte ´Kleiner Bär´ ist seit 1995 im Handel und zählt nach wie vor zu den beliebtesten rotblättrigen Sorten. Im Aquarium bildet die Pflanze eine kompakte Rosette mit rostroter bis tief dunkelroter Farbe. Ältere Pflanzen erreichen eine Wuchshöhe bis 25 cm. Wie bei vielen Echinodorus-Sorten unterscheiden sich emerse und submerse Blätter enorm. Der ´Kleine Bär´ ist in der Gewächshauskultur kräftig grün und treibt schon nach wenigen Tagen im Aquarium die ersten roten Unterwasserblätter. Ein immer wieder faszinierendes Schauspiel!

Einsteigerpflanze
Die Verbreitung der Schwertpflanzen erstreckt sich von den USA bis nach Argentinien. Die E. argentinensis gehört zu den größer werdenden Arten und benötigt genügend Platz in einer Unterwasserlandschaft. Für offene Aquarien ist sie sehr gut geeignet, ihre kräftigen Blätter über Wasser sehen dekorativ aus. Mit etwas Geduld bilden sich auch Blütentriebe mit weißen Blüten. Nährstoffreicher Bodengrund und eine mittlere bis gute Beleuchtung sind notwendig.

Eine weitere Neuheit aus Indien ist die Pogostemon erectus. Diese Stängelpflanze bildet sehr feine Blattnadeln in wunderschöner hellgrüner farbe. Sie ist nicht allzu schwer zu kultivieren, wenn genügend licht und Co2 vorhanden sind. Für das Aquascaping eignet sich diese indische Schönheit sehr gut in Kombination mit roten oder bräunlichen Pflanzen. Die Wuchsgeschwindigkeit liegt im mittleren Bereich. Eine Pflanzengruppe kann radikal beschnitten werden - rasch treiben die Stängel viele neue Seitentriebe aus, und der Bestand wird dichter und kompakter.
