Discus cichlids and some other cichlid species can be very picky about their food. In the JBL PRONOVO BITS this has been considered and therefore raw materials such as shrimps have been chosen which the fish cannot resist.
Since discus and cichlids living in the same biotope adapt their food spectrum to dry and rainy seasons, but we do not reproduce this in the aquarium, the food must be very versatile. In the rainy season of Amazonia, when the water level rises to 9 m, discus even eat fruits and other vegetable components! In the dry season, discus orientate themselves towards the bottom and, apart from shrimps, eat everything they can find from the bottom.
Advantages of JBL foods: Use of pure fish protein without cheap fish meal. Optimal protein-fat ratio. Mainly proteins from aquatic animals. Reduction of algae growth and optimal fish growth due to adjusted phosphate content. Prebiotic: Prebiotics are "substrates that are selectively utilized by host microorganisms and impart health benefits." Here, scientists agree that they promote digestion and thus health. In the case of our fish, there is another essential aspect: With better digestion, less is excreted, and thus the water is less polluted, causing fewer algae problems and keeping the water cleaner.
Don't be surprised that squid is listed among the raw materials! In the feed declaration, squid is representative of all mollusks, including mussels and snails. Of course, squid are not part of the natural food spectrum of the discus.
