Ratte
Die Wanderratte stammt ursprünglich aus China.In der freien Natur leben Ratten in Kolonien, in einer so genannten Rattenburg. In diesem unterirdischen Bau werden verschiedene Höhlen für verschiedene Bedürfnisse angelegt (Schlaf- und Aufenthaltsraum, Vorrats- und WC - Kammer, Höhle zur gemeinsamen Aufzucht der Jungen).
Domestikation:
Die Farbratte stammt von der Wanderratte ab. Im 10. Jahrhundert wurde diese erstmals in Europa nachgewiesen. Früher nahm man an, dass die Wanderratten aus China über Russland und dann Norwegen nach Europa eingewandert sind.Effektiv sind die Ratten aber als blinde Passagiere mit Schiffen oder anderen Transportmitteln um die Welt gereist und kommen nun überall vor.Ratten haben weltweit eine grosse Bedeutung als Schadnager und Krankheitsüberträger (Pest, Tollwut...).
Haltung:
Ratten zählen zu den sozial lebenden Nagern und müssen mindestens zu Zweit gehalten werden. Es können aber auch grössere, gleichgeschlechtliche Gruppen in einem grossen Nagergehege oder einer Voliere leben.
Das Mindestmass ist 100x50x70cm für fünf Tiere. Den Ratten kann täglich Auslauf angeboten werden.
Als Einstreu können viele verschieden Materialien wie Hanf, Maisbruch oder Leinen angeboten werden. Empfehlenswert ist eine staubarme aber saugfähige und geruchsbindende Einstreu.
Es ist keine Grabschicht vorgeschrieben, jedoch nesten sich auch Ratten gerne in den Bodengrund ein.
Für jedes Tier muss ein Rückzugsort zur Verfügung stehen und geeignetes Material, um die Häuschen auszupolstern.
Mit Leitern, Naturästen, Lianen, Sitzbrettern kann das Gehege abwechslungsreich eingerichtet werden.
Ratten markieren ihr Revier mit Urin und den Duftdrüsen. Da dies stark riecht, muss der Käfig zwei Mal pro Wiche ausgemistet werden. Die Gehege sollten nicht mit stark riechenden Chemikalien gereinigt werden, da die Tiere sie sonst stärker markieren.

Zuchtdaten:
Neugeborene Ratten sind nackt und blind. Der Fellwuchs der Jungtiere beginnt ab dem 2. Tag. Nach 3 bis 4 Tagen öffnen sich die Ohren, nach 13 bis 16 Tagen die Augen.Um eine unkontrollierte Vermehrung zu verhindern, müssen die Männchen unbedingt vor der Geschlechtsreife kastriert oder von der Mutter und den Schwestern getrennt werden. Eine Frühkastration ist ab der sechsten Woche möglich.

Tierarzt: Je artgerechter und sauberer die Haltung, desto seltener droht der Gang zum Tierarzt. Dennoch muss man immer damit rechnen, dass ein Tier auch einmal krank werden kann und dann zusätzliche Kosten verursacht.
Bevor Sie sich für eine Ratte entscheiden, sollten Sie unbedingt ein entsprechendes Fachbuch gelesen haben.Für jede Tierhaltung gilt: Kinder (auch Jugendliche) müssen von den Eltern angeleitet, beaufsichtigt und kontrolliert werden. Kinder sollen wissen, dass Tiere keine Spielzeuge sind!
