The waterweed, as it is known by its German trade name, already indicates its growth characteristics. Egeria densa is probably one of the best-growing plants of all and is completely unproblematic to cultivate. Native to south-east Brazil and Argentina, it is now naturalised on all continents. In the "dense-leaved" variety, the leaves on the stem are extremely dense and compact. It also grows very well planted or free-floating in a garden pond, but is only hardy to a limited extent.

Mosses are unique yet low-maintenance plants. Compared to traditional aquarium plants, they differ significantly in appearance. They have no true roots, and their stems and leaves are greatly reduced. They grow in the form of green mats that attach to various surfaces in the aquarium.
Vesicularia spreads by creeping over decorative elements and the substrate. With regular trimming and appropriate shaping, it quickly forms a dense, green carpet. The moss should be attached to a decorative element, for example with cotton thread, thin fishing line or special plant glue.This plant has virtually no special requirements regarding water parameters. It grows well under almost all conditions; water hardness, pH value and lighting can be largely arbitrary. CO₂ supplementation is not required either. The waterweed is perhaps the best known water plant at all. Due to their rapid growth, it is as algae preventive plant almost ideal. Even a so-called oxygen dispenser for the aquarium or garden pond this stem plant is known. As with most stem plants, the propagation is straightforward. The upper engine part or side shoots are cut and replanted. In the aquarium the waterweed often needs to be shortened due to the growth rate. To stabilize a refurbishment highly recommended.This species is no longer permitted in Switzerland as it has been categorised as an invasive plant. The item is therefore excluded from sale.

The hornwort is a cosmopolitan plant that can be found in many bodies of water around the world. We found the free-floating stem plant in huge populations in a tributary of the Rio Miranda on the edge of the Pantanal in South America. A very decorative variety of Vallisneria spiralis with a twisted growth habit. It is also known commercially as ‘screw vallisneria’. Unique pink Hygrophila 'Chai' is a striking variegated cultivar of Hygrophila lancea "Araguaia" that appeared at South Island Aquarium in Singapore. Its narrow-lineal leaves, curved to the side, are green only in the center, the margin is white to pink. The shade is reminiscent of that of Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Flamingo' and 'Pink Panther'. So like the normal 'Araguaia', Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' grows submersed rather spreading and strongly branched.
We recommend for Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' rather strong lighting, CO₂ addition and good macro and micronutrient supply. Growth is slow, and occasional cutting of shoot tips encourages bushy growth. Just like other stem plants, you can propagate this Hygrophila by heading and partial cuttings.
Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' provides a unique bright pink color accent in the mid to foreground, best as a smaller bushy group. It contrasts strongly with dark plants and decorative materials.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed of gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then place them at a small distance on the selected items.

Vallisneria nana is a new vallisneria in the aquarium hobby. The species name “nana” means: dwarf. However, the plant only exhibits this growth behaviour in its natural habitat in Australia. In our aquaria, the plants can reach lengths of 30-70 cm. This very narrow-leaved species is therefore more suitable for the background. Cultivation and care are very simple, but here too it is important to control the growth of the runners. CO2-applications additionally promote the growth of all Vallisnerias.
