Striking aquatic plant with parchment-like and strongly corrugated leaves. This species of water spike is very popular in aquariums. Older plants can have up to 50 leaves - an impressive sight. The ideal water temperature is 24-28 °C, which is higher than for the other water lilies: Remove the tuber and place it in a pot with sand. Spray infrequently at room temperature for approx. 2 months and then place back in the aquarium.

The brown colour variant of Cryptocoryne wendtii is also very popular and can be used in many planted landscapes. Its leaf edges are slightly wavy; in some cases, the leaves are also bullous in shape. The leaf colour is green to brown, sometimes with brown streaking. With good lighting, its leaves become deep dark brown. In combination with other green cryptocorynes, this creates a very striking contrast. Like almost all Cryptocorynes from Sri Lanka, it grows well in harder water and is therefore ideally suited for cichlid aquaria.

The small arrowhead is a popular aquarium plant with very narrow, ribbon-shaped leaves. At first glance, these look very similar to the leaves of Vallisneria. The growth height of Sagittaria subulata var. pusilla is very variable, ranging from a few centimetres to 40 cm. Only with good lighting does the arrowhead stay nice and short for the foreground area. The plant carpet can be kept short by regularly removing runners with longer leaves. This species grows best in medium-hard to hard water and is very tolerant when it comes to water temperature.

Tuberous plant from the water spike family. It is one of the most beautiful Aponogeton species for aquariums. Its bright green and transparent leaves are striking. The leaf blades are also distinctly bullous. As soon as the plant stagnates in growth, a resting phase must be induced. Cool water and darkening are necessary. This is best achieved with a small separate aquarium for approx. 3-4 months. Afterwards, it is replanted in the underwater landscape.

Another and also new variety of the dwarf spear leaf is the 'Gold' variety. It was discovered in the normal cultivation stock in a nursery in Taiwan. After isolation, it took a few years until a stable stock was available. Its light green to golden yellow leaf colour clearly distinguishes it from other dark green Anubias species. The lighting should not be too weak here, otherwise the plants will become darker in leaf colour again.

The “Brazilian pennywort” Hydrocotyle leucocephala is a very undemanding stem plant. We discovered the plant in the shallow waters of crystal-clear rivers, but also in the damp substrate of the dense jungle. It grows very quickly in the aquarium and is highly recommended for novice aquarists. As soon as the shoots have reached the water surface, they continue to grow in a floating manner. Due to its rapid growth, the stems need to be shortened and replanted frequently.

The brown colour variant of Cryptocoryne wendtii is also very popular and can be used in many planted landscapes. Its leaf edges are slightly wavy; in some cases, the leaves are also bullous in shape. The leaf colour is green to brown, sometimes with brown streaking. With good lighting, its leaves become deep dark brown. In combination with other green cryptocorynes, this creates a very striking contrast. Like almost all Cryptocorynes from Sri Lanka, it grows well in harder water and is therefore ideally suited for cichlid aquaria.

The Cuban Pearlwort was only discovered a few years ago in a stream on the island of Cuba . Due to its leaves, which are only a few millimetres in size, this Hemianthus is considered the smallest aquarium plant in the world. In terms of water parameters, the Pearlwort is very adaptable; however, very good lighting and a good supply of CO2 are essential. Plants grown emersed are divided into small pieces and planted in batches. Within a few weeks, this creates a dense carpet in the foreground. An aquarium layout combined with a rock landscape looks very decorative and natural.
