Product information "Ammania gracilis – red stem plant"

Ammania gracilis – red stem plant for aquascaping

Ammania gracilis – a decorative red stem plant for the midground and background. Ideal for aquascaping, with beautiful colouration when provided with light, CO₂ and a good supply of nutrients.
Ammania gracilis is an attractive stem plant for freshwater aquariums and is particularly popular in aquascaping. The plant produces elongated, slightly wavy leaves which, depending on light and nutrient levels, can range in colour from greenish to coppery to a rich reddish hue. This allows it to add beautiful splashes of colour to the aquarium and makes it ideal as an eye-catching feature in the midground or background.
Under good conditions, Ammania gracilis grows upright and can reach a height of around 20 to 50 cm. To develop an intense red colour, the plant requires medium to strong lighting, a good supply of nutrients and, ideally, CO₂ supplementation. It develops its full colour particularly well under strong light and with sufficient micronutrients.
Ammania gracilis is suitable for planted aquariums, aquascapes and ‘ Holland ’ aquariums. Regular trimming keeps the plant compact and encourages bushier branching. The cut shoot tips can be replanted directly into the substrate.

Instructions for use

Before planting, carefully remove the pot, rockwool or transport material from the roots. If necessary, divide the plant into smaller sections and plant the individual stems in the substrate, leaving a little space between them. This ensures the shoots receive enough light and can develop well.
Ammania gracilis prefers a bright spot in the aquarium. Moderate to strong lighting, as well as a regular supply of macro- and micronutrients, promote healthy growth and vibrant colouration. Adding CO₂ is recommended, as the plant grows significantly more vigorously and with more intense colour when supplied with sufficient CO₂.
Regular pruning encourages bushier growth. The cut shoot tips can be replanted as cuttings.

Zoo Roco Tip

To develop a beautiful red to copper-coloured hue, Ammania gracilis requires plenty of light and a steady supply of nutrients. Do not plant the stems too densely, so that the lower leaves also receive sufficient light. When combined with light-green plants, this creates a particularly beautiful colour contrast in the aquarium.

Hygrophila lancea 'Chai'
Hygrophila lancea 'Chai'A striking color distinguishes this foreground plant - an eye-catcher in any aquarium.Cultivation difficulty: moderately demandingLight requirement:  highCO₂ requirement: medium to highAdult plant height: Bushy, low growthGrowth: SlowTemperature: 20 - 28°CPlacement in aquarium: ForegroundOrigin: South Island Aquarium in Singapore. Cup diameter: 6 cm Unique pink Hygrophila 'Chai' is a striking variegated cultivar of Hygrophila lancea "Araguaia" that appeared at South Island Aquarium in Singapore. Its narrow-lineal leaves, curved to the side, are green only in the center, the margin is white to pink. The shade is reminiscent of that of Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Flamingo' and 'Pink Panther'. So like the normal 'Araguaia', Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' grows submersed rather spreading and strongly branched. We recommend for Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' rather strong lighting, CO₂ addition and good macro and micronutrient supply. Growth is slow, and occasional cutting of shoot tips encourages bushy growth. Just like other stem plants, you can propagate this Hygrophila by heading and partial cuttings. Hygrophila lancea 'Chai' provides a unique bright pink color accent in the mid to foreground, best as a smaller bushy group. It contrasts strongly with dark plants and decorative materials.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed of gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then place them at a small distance on the selected items.

Alternanthera Reineckii 'Lilacina' (parrot leaf)
Alternanthera Reineckii (Parrot Leaf)Alternanthera Reineckii 'Lilacina' is a beautiful red plant for the background or back wall of an aquarium. A very decorative plant, exceptionally colorful.Difficulty of cultivation: demandingLight requirements: highCO₂ requirements: mediumHeight of mature plant: up to 40 cmGrowth rate: slowTemperature: 17-28°CAquarium location: foreground, backgroundOrigin: South AmericaCup diameter 6 cmAlternanthera Reineckii 'Lilacina' is also called Lilac Alternanthera. It is intended for the second level of the aquarium or for the background. This species has been cultivated for a long time. The natural habitat of this species is the tropical regions of South America, where it grows in swamps and on the banks of rivers and lakes. It is a typical marsh plant. For this reason, it likes to grow above the water level, ideal for aquariums with low water levels. The stems above the water are often covered with tiny white or purple flowers. This variety has elongated, lance-shaped leaves that can grow up to 9.5 cm long.It is propagated by cuttings. It is recommended to place a few cuttings in a group to obtain a compact form. However, for the plant to develop all its beauty, it must find the right conditions. It grows best in soft to medium hard water up to 12 GH with a pH of 5 to 7. It is an extremely light-loving variety. It likes full spectrum light best. Intense light for 10 hours per day makes it grow faster and produces beautiful dark red leaves. Alternantera 'Lilacina' also needs CO₂ fertilization for lush growth. This can be done at a medium level, so between 6 and 14 mg/l. A deficiency of macro- and micronutrients is immediately noticeable in the form of changes in the leaf blades. The best substrate for this variety is a active substrate of good quality; it also grows well and happily in garden soil. It forms a poorly developed root system, consisting of a single bundle of thin and tender roots. It is worth cutting this plant back, and the cut shoots can be planted directly into the soil to obtain new cuttings. Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then place them at a small distance..

Micranthemum umbrosum
Micranthemum umbrosum Micranthemum Umbrosum is a light green stem plant with small round leaves. Depending on how it is pruned, it is suitable for both the foreground and background of the aquarium. Difficulty of cultivation: easy Light requirement: medium, to high CO₂ requirement: medium Height of the adult plant: 20 cm Growth: fast Temperature: 22-26 °C Placement in the aquarium: Second level Origin: North and Central America Cup diameter: 6 cm Micranthemum Umbrosum (Round-leaved meadowfoam) is a naturally occurring plant in North and Central America. It grows both in water and in marshy areas. It is prized by aquarists for its unique appearance. The plant forms long stems with paired, alternate, small, round, light green leaves. It has a fairly well developed root system. It needs regular pruning and is easy to shape into a desired form. It is propagated vegetatively by cutting off the shoot tips and planting them in the ground. It likes water with a hardness of 2-12°N, a pH of 5.5-7.7 and a temperature of 24-26°C. It is sensitive to trypaflavin and can be damaged by snails. It has fairly high light requirements. With insufficient light, it pulls upward, and distinct gaps can be seen between the leaves. With sufficient light, it forms dense clumps that are pleasing to the aquarist's eye.Micranthemum umbrosum is usually placed in the background of the aquarium, but it also looks good in the foreground when cut short. It does not require absolute CO₂ fertilization, but grows much faster in its presence. When growing this plant, pay special attention to the proper concentration of iron in the aquarium water.. Planting:The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Rotala rotundifolia 'Green
Rotala Rotundifolia 'Green' Rotala Rotundifolia 'Green' (Round-leaved Rotala) is a mid-ground plant. It is characterized by fast growth and moderate light requirements. The color is usually light green.Difficulty of growing: easy Light requirements: medium CO₂ requirements: not necessary Height of mature plant: 50-60 cm Growth: fast Temperature: 20-28°C Placement in aquarium: third level Origin: South Asia, Southeast Asia Cup diameter 6 cm The natural range of the round-leaved Rotalas (Rotala rotundifolia) is South, Southeast and East Asia. It has been spread by humans to Australia, the United States and Brazil, among other places. She is thus already almost a globetrotter.Rotala rotundifolia 'Green' is very similar to Rotala rotundifolia, but its leaves remain bright green even in bright light. This plant is characterized by its fast growth and its tendency to spread profusely, especially when regularly pruned. It tolerates medium light levels, but the higher the light, the more intense the plant's growth and colors. If left to grow freely, it reaches a length of 30-60 cm, cutting off access to light to the lower parts, where it begins to lose its leaves. Under favorable conditions, if left uncontrolled, it can dominate an entire tank, especially if it is a tank with a small capacity. Once it reaches the surface of the water, it begins to float on it. It does not need additional carbon dioxide fertilization unless you want to accelerate its growth even more. It is tolerant of pH and water hardness, although like most plants, it cannot tolerate extremes. It tolerates temperatures between 20 and 28 °C, but thrives better in the upper end of this range. It can grow in both an active and a poor substrate, but in this case it is advisable to fertilize under the roots. In well-lit, CO2-fertilized aquariums, it may require additional fertilization with macronutrients due to its rapid growth. Otherwise, it will lose its color and the leaves will become smaller. Rotala rotundifolia is propagated in the aquarium by cutting off stem pieces and placing them in a selected spot in the substrate. When transplanted to a new tank, it will need some time to acclimate and grow faster.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then place them at a small distance into the substrate.

Its small leaves are bright green, oval with a conspicuous pale central vein.Lobelias can be cultivated in aquariums and paludariums. It thrives in muddy soil as well as underwater. It tolerates temperatures from 15 to 28 °C and can also be kept in a pond. It thrives best at 20-23°C and requires soft to medium-hard water with a pH between 6.5 and 7.2.Without sufficient light, the leaves turn yellow, but in bright light the undersides of the leaves turn purple. It is not particularly demanding, but regular water changes, fertilizer and CO₂ support its growth. In the aquarium, lobelia should be planted in a group in the middle ground, but it is also well suited as a foreground plant. Pruning is necessary for the plant to grow well; use scissors to remove older leaves. You can also cut back the entire plant and use the cut tips as cuttings. Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water.
