Sie wächst sehr gut, aber wie auch die Lilaeopsis brasiliensis ist die Wuchsgeschwindigkeit eher langsam. Ihre Blattform ist im Querschnitt rundlich und erinnert ein wenig an Schnittlauch im Miniaturformat. auch hier fördert ein radikaler Rückschnitt die Bildung eines dichten Bestandes. für nano Cubes und auch für das „Aquascaping“ ist diese grasartige Pflanze bestens geeignet. Der Riesenwasserfreund ist eine gute Anfängerpflanze für den Hintergrund. Durch das schnelle Wachstum werden überschüssige Nährstoffe aufgenommen und so den Algen die Nahrungsgrundlage entzogen. Sobald die Triebe die Wasseroberfläche erreicht haben, werden sie wieder zur Hälfte eingekürzt. Dabei empfiehlt sich eine stufige Anordnung der Stängel.

You may also come across the name Alternanthera Cardinalis, but that is not the scientific name for this plant. It is a very impressive member of the Amaranthaceae family that looks best in the background, in the center of the tank.In large aquariums, it can be planted in the foreground. If regularly cut back to a height of 5-10 cm, it will form a beautiful red carpet. Its distinctive feature is the burgundy pink leaves with contrasting light veins. The color of the leaves depends on the conditions in the aquarium. It is popular for arrangements in Dutch style aquariums. It is recommended to plant 6-7 seedlings in a group to form a compact, interesting-looking shrub. This variety needs a lot of light and is quite a demanding plant in this respect. A fertile substrate is also essential. It grows well in active media. The plant easily reproduces by dividing shoots that grow at the base of the stem and leaves. Cuttings cut from the mother plant can be put directly into the substrate. They quickly form a root system. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself.

Sie wird im Handel auch als ´Schraubenvallisnerie´ bezeichnet. Mit einer Höhe von 30-50 cm bleiben die Blätter deutlich kürzer als bei der Stammform. In der Kultur ist sie ebenfalls anspruchslos, lediglich die Lichtstärke sollte etwas höher sein als bei der normalen V. spiralis. Die Sorte ´Torta´ ist für den Mittelgrund von kleinen, oder den Hintergrund von größeren Aquarien geeignet.
