Iron is of central importance for all aquarium plants. It is required for the formation of vital leaf green. Without leaf green, the plant cannot photosynthesise. Iron deficiency is immediately apparent: The young leaves appear pale and yellowish (iron chlorosis).
Important to know: Plants can only absorb so-called divalent, “white” iron. Unfortunately, this is not stable in the aquarium but oxidises quickly, converting into ineffective trivalent, “brown” iron. Tap water contains virtually no iron. Aquarium plants are therefore dependent on regular iron fertilisation.
Dosage: 1 tab every 4 weeks
Special note:Standard iron tests are often unable to detect chelated iron. These tests then indicate a deficiency, even though there is actually sufficient iron present in the aquarium water.
