Fish show their colors with almost any food, but the color expression can be intensified by certain types of food, just as it happens in humans with a diet of carrots. Males mating or fighting show how intense the colors of fish can be. However, JBL does not use cheap carotene, but natural astaxanthin (also a carotene), which is obtained from krill shrimps and spirulina algae. Although this is considerably more expensive, it is a natural method of promoting the beautiful colors of the fish.
