Die Heimat dieser zierlichen Aquarienpflanze ist die Ostküste von Nordamerika. Dort wächst die Hemianthus-Art auf steinigem oder schlammigem Bodengrund an Flussläufen. Ihr lockerer, aufrechter Wuchs und die leuchtend hellgrüne Farbe vermitteln einen frischen, frühlingshaften Eindruck. Mit Hilfe einer scharfen Schere lässt sich die Pflanze gut einkürzen. Nach dem Rückschnitt treiben viele neue Seitentriebe aus und der Bestand wirkt kompakter und dichter. Sehr kontrastreich ist die Kombination der hellgrünen Hemianthus mit rotlaubigen Arten wie der Alternanthera.
