With Carex riparia (Great Pond Sedge), you are opting for a strong structural grass that is ideal for the shoreline around the garden pond. Around ponds in particular, it is often important to use plants that not only flower but also structure and visually calm the edge area. Carex riparia provides precisely this calm, natural effect: it is stable, looks tidy and is suitable for both near-natural pond systems and clearly designed shorelines.
With a height of approx. 60 to 80 cm, the sedge is ideal for the centre to background. It forms a green backdrop against which lower marginal plants and flowering plants are shown to their best advantage. At the same time, it helps to visually embed technical elements such as film edges or plant baskets.
The flowering period from June to July (VI-VII) complements the season, with sedges usually focussing on the structural effect of their leaves and growth form. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes Carex riparia perfect for the edge and shallow water zone. It can be planted directly in moist bank soil or placed in very shallow water - depending on the pond structure and desired effect.
Supplied in an 18 cm pot , you get a well-developed plant with a solid root volume, which makes it easier to grow and ensures greater stability. If you want to keep the edge of the pond particularly clean, a plant basket is a practical option: this keeps the sedge where it looks best and can be easily moved if necessary.
Thanks to zone 1-2, Carex riparia is suitable for perennial pond planting in many regions and is a reliable choice if you want to combine structure and naturalness in your garden pond.
Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.
Zoo Roco tip: Place Carex riparia at the edge of the pond as a "green frame": Place 1-3 plants slightly offset so that the edge looks more natural. It is stable at a depth of 0 to -15 cm - and it is particularly easy to keep the shoreline under control in the plant basket.
