The giant vallisneria is a very variable aquatic plant that is native to Australia. Its long, narrow leaves can take on gigantic proportions in good conditions, and leaf lengths of up to 3 metres are not uncommon. The giant vallisneria is very popular in discus aquariums and aquariums for East African cichlids from Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. These fish require harder water, which is problematic for many plants. Vallisneria australis 'Giganta', however, prefers these water values.
