Taurin ist für Katzen lebensnotwendig. Die Katze ist nicht in der Lage (wie z.B. der Hund oder Mensch), Taurin im Körper selber zu bilden. Da der Tauringehalt in vielen Fertigfuttermitteln oftmals zu gering ist, um den entsprechenden Bedarf abzudecken, ist eine Beigabe über die Futterzufuhr sehr wichtig. Taurin unterstützt den Stoffwechsel, regt das Immunsystem sowie die Nieren- und Leberfunktion an und spielt eine grosse Rolle im Zentralnervensystem. Ein Mangel an Taurin kann langfristig z.B. zu Erblindung, Erkrankung des Herzmuskels oder Störungen im Immun- und Nervensystem führen.
