Wasserflöhe im weiteren Sinne ist eine umgangssprachliche Bezeichnung für eine Reihe von Kleinkrebsen aus verschiedenen Familien und Gattungen (Daphnia, Bosmina, Cyclops, Simocephalus und anderen) der Krebstiere, die zum Zooplankton des Süßwassers gehören. Die Bezeichnung bezieht sich auf die Fortbewegungsweise der Tiere im Wasser. Durch stoßweises rudern mit ihren Antennen entsteht der Eindruck eines flohähnlichen Hüpfens.

Als Wasserfloh im engeren Sinne wird die Art Daphnia pulex und als Riesenwasserfloh die Art Daphnia magna bezeichnet, letztere, insbesondere die Form Daphnia magna straus, wird für Wassergütetests verwendet.
