Product information "Marsh marigold (18 cm) – Caltha palustris"

Acorus calamus – sweet flag for pond edges & shallow water

Caltha palustris is a classic spring-flowering plant for the garden pond and provides bright splashes of colour with its yellow flowers from March to May (III–V). With a height of 30–40 cm, it fits perfectly at the pond edge and in damp marginal zones. It is suitable for a planting depth of 0 to –15 cm and is hardy in zones 1–2.

  • Flower colour: yellow
  • Flowering period: III–V (March to May)
  • Height: approx. 30–40 cm
  • Pot size: approx. 18 cm

Specifications for the plant:

  • They already bring vibrant colour to the pond edge in spring – just when many other pond plants are still reserved.
  • Due to the planting depth of 0 to –15 cm, the marsh marigold is perfect for bank and shallow water edge areas.
  • Thanks to zone 1–2, it is suitable for perennial, low-maintenance pond planting.

Technical data:

  • Botanical name: Caltha palustris
  • English name: Marsh Marigold
  • Height (cm): 30 / 40 cm
  • Planting depth: 0 / –15 cm
  • Flowering period: III–V
  • Winter hardiness: Zone 1 / 2
  • Pot size: 18 cm

With Caltha palustris (marsh marigold), you get one of the most popular spring-flowering plants for your garden pond. When the garden comes back to life after winter, it ensures a striking splash of colour by the water with its yellow flowers from March to May (III–V). Especially at the pond edge this is especially valuable: many marginal plants do not shoot up strongly until later – by contrast, the marsh marigold brings early colour and looks natural and harmonious in the process.
With a height of about 30 to 40 cm the plant is ideal for the front to middle ground. It fits perfectly at pond edges, in damp border beds or in areas that are permanently moist to wet. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes it perfect for the bank and shallow water edge zone: directly in damp soil at the edge or standing slightly in water. Marsh marigold looks especially beautiful when you plant it in small groups – this creates a calm, natural area that visually softens the pond edge.
The delivery in a 18-cm pot makes it easier to plant and gives the plant a good root volume from the start. If you want a very clear pond edge or want to keep the position flexible, a planting basket is a practical solution: this keeps the marsh marigold stable in the desired spot and can be easily moved if necessary.
Thanks to winter hardiness zone 1–2, Caltha palustris is suitable for permanent pond installations in many regions and is an uncomplicated choice for a low-maintenance, natural pond edge planting.

Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may happen that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or through other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken stems. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.

Zoo-Roco tip: Plant the marsh marigold where you often pass by in spring – it’s a perfect starting point for the pond season. If your water level fluctuates greatly in spring, place the plant in a planting basket at 0 to –15 cm so it stays stable and grows reliably.

Bachbunge (9 cm) – Veronica beccabunga
Veronica beccabunga – Brooklime for pond edge & banksVeronica beccabunga (Brooklime) is a low-growing pond-edge plant for damp banks and the shallow water zone. It is suitable for a planting depth of 0 to –15 cm and remains pleasantly compact at a height of 10–20 cm. The flowering period runs from May to September (V–IX).Flowering period: V–IX (May to September)Hardiness/Zone: Zone 1–2Height: approx. 10–20 cmPot size: approx. 9cmSpecifications for the plant:They visually green pond edges and stream courses softly and naturally, without obstructing the view of the water. Thanks to the long flowering period V–IX, the border zone remains lively for many weeks. With zone 1–2, brooklime is suitable for perennial, low-maintenance pond plantings.Technical data:Botanical name: Veronica beccabungaGerman name: BrooklimeFlowering period: V–IXWinter hardiness zones: Zone 1 / 2Height: approx. 10–20 cmPlanting depth: 0 to –15 cmWith Veronica beccabunga (Brooklime) you are choosing a compact, natural-looking plant for garden ponds, streams and damp banks. Especially at pond edges there are often transitions that can quickly appear ‘harsh’ – for example at stones, liner edges or between plant baskets. Brooklime helps to visually connect these areas: it grows low, has a calm appearance, and provides a natural finish without overloading the pond edge.A major advantage is the long flowering period from May to September (V–IX). This keeps the edge zone attractive for much of the season and gives a well-maintained appearance. Thanks to the low growth height of approx. 10 to 20 cm, Veronica beccabunga is particularly suitable for the foreground of bank plantings or as a ‘filler plant’ in the shallow water zone. It can be excellently combined with taller structural plants that may stand behind, while the brooklime in the foreground softly outlines the edge visually. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes the plant very flexible: place it directly in moist bank soil or in a very shallow water area, depending on the pond layout. For a neat pond edge and easy care, a planting basket is often helpful, especially if you want to reposition the plant later. For growth, a consistently moist location is crucial. Thanks to zone 1–2, Veronica beccabunga is suitable for perennial pond installations and is a good choice if you are looking for a low-growing, uncomplicated plant for damp areas that integrates harmoniously into a natural pond design.Note on shipping: We do our utmost to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, plants may be slightly damaged by postal delivery or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken twigs. We do not accept liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: Place brooklime along the shore where you want to fill gaps – it looks especially natural when it ‘grows into’ stones. In very shallow areas (up to –15 cm), a planting basket is practical so that the plant stands stably and you can keep design control easily.

Marsh forget-me-not (18cm) - Myosotis palustris
Myosotis palustris - marsh forget-me-not pond edgeMyosotis palustris is a tried-and-tested pond edge plant for damp banks and the swamp zone. It brings a long flowering period to the pond design from May to August (V-VIII) and remains pleasantly compact at 20-40 cm tall. It is hardy in zones 1-2.Area of application: Pond edge / swamp zone / moist border bedsFlowering time: V-VIII (May to August)Flower colour: shades of blueHeight: approx. 20-40 cmWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 18 cmPlant specifications:They quickly green up damp pond edges and create a natural, soft transition from the water to the garden. The long flowering period V-VIII means that the edge zone remains attractive for months. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for perennial garden pond planting. Technical data:Botanical name: Myosotis palustrisGerman name: marsh forget-me-notHeight: 20 / 40 cmPlanting depth: not specifiedFlowering time: V-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 18 cmMyosotis palustris (marsh forget-me-not) is a classic plant for the bank and marsh zone around the garden pond. It is ideal if you want to create a natural, gentle transition between the water surface and the garden. The marsh forget-me-not really comes into its own in damp areas where many bedding plants struggle: It looks light, friendly and blends harmoniously into mixed pond edge plantings. One major advantage is the long flowering period from May to August (V-VIII). This means that the edge zone remains lively and visually attractive for months. With a height of approx. 20 to 40 cm, the plant is particularly suitable for the foreground at the edge of the pond or as a filling element between stones, stepping stones and other shore plants. Planted in small groups, it creates a calm, flat effect that quickly looks natural and reliably closes gaps. Myosotis palustris is particularly interesting for pond design if you want a planting that is not too tall and does not obscure the view of the water. Place the plant in evenly moist soil at the edge or in the swamp zone - there it can establish itself well. The pot (approx. 18 cm) provides a solid starting volume and makes it easier to place in the desired location. If you prefer a clear edge to the pond, a plant basket can be useful to keep the plant where it will look best. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for permanent garden ponds and is an uncomplicated addition to near-natural bank plantings.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: For a particularly natural look, place the marsh forget-me-not in small groups along the shoreline. If you are unsure how wet the location should be: place the plant on the wet edge first (not too deep in the water) - this makes it easy to find the perfect area by the garden pond.

Pennywort (18cm) - Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'
Pennywort for the garden pond - Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'The pennywort 'Aurea' is a flat-growing ground cover for damp edges around the garden pond. Yellow flowers appear from May to August (V-VIII) and brighten up the edge of the pond. With a height of 5-10 cm, it is ideal for greening edges, gaps and bank areas.Flowering time: V-VIII (May to August)Flower colour: yellowWinter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2Pot: approx. 18 cmPlant specifications:They quickly close gaps at the edge of the pond and create a natural, soft transition to the water surface. The yellow flowers in V-VIII bring colour to the shoreline for months. The low growth remains tidy and is hardy in zones 1-2 - ideal for permanent pond design.Technical data:Botanical name: Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'German name: PfenningkrautPlanting depth: up to -40 cmFlowering time: V-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1/2Pot: approx. 18 cmLysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' (pennywort) is a reliable, low-growing ground cover for your garden pond. The edges of banks in particular often have areas where open soil remains visible or hard transitions (e.g. stones, liner edges, plant baskets) appear visually "cut off". This is exactly where pennywort is ideal: it grows creeping, connects areas and creates a natural, soft line along the water. The 'Aurea' variety stands out with its friendly, light-coloured effect and fits perfectly into pond edge plantings that are intended to look lighter and fresher overall.During the flowering period from May to August (V-VIII), yellow flowers appear, giving the edge area a lively appearance without dominating it. With a height of just 5 to 10 cm, the plant remains deliberately low - ideal if you want to keep a clear view of the water surface. Pennywort can be used in a variety of ways around the garden pond: as a border along the edge of the pond, between stones, on the edge of stepping stones or as a "carpet" in front of taller waterside plants. It looks particularly attractive if you plant several plants close together to quickly create a closed area.An evenly moist location is important for good growth - especially in marginal zones, which can dry out more quickly in summer. As there is no information on the exact planting depth, the recommendation remains practical: plant Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' in moist bank soil or at the edge of the swamp zone where the soil does not become permanently dry. This allows the shoots to develop stably and the plant can utilise its ground-covering effect. Thanks to zone 1-2, it is also well suited for perennial pond edge designs.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: If you want to conceal a foil edge: Place the pennywort 'Aurea' directly in front of it and allow it to "flow" slightly over stones or edges. This gives the edge of the pond a more natural look - and you get a neat finish without tall plants obscuring the view.

Dwarf water lily – Nymphaea Pygmaea Rubra
Dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ red (18cm)The dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ brings an elegant splash of colour to the water’s surface with its red flowers. Thanks to its compact form, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds as well as mini ponds and bowls. Ideal if you want a water lily that doesn’t take up too much space.Dwarf-form water lily – suitable for small water areasFlower colour: redGrowth: compact, for a controlled leaf areaArea of application: Garden pond, mini pond, tub/bowlTechnical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’English name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: redPlanting depth: -10 to -40cmFlowering period: June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ you bring the typical water lily atmosphere into the garden – even if your pond is rather small or you want to plant in a mini pond or tub. Dwarf water lilies are designed to unfold a harmonious effect in a limited space: Floating leaves on the surface and an attractive blossom, without the water area being quickly completely covered. The ‘Rubra’ variety creates an elegant, easily visible splash of colour with its red flowers.Especially with smaller garden ponds, balanced planting is crucial. Water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface and “close” the water effect. In comparison, a dwarf water lily remains more compact and is therefore a good choice if you want a calm, well-kept look and nevertheless do not want to do without the classic water lily eye-catcher. ‘Rubra’ is particularly effective when positioned so that you have a good view of the flowers from your seat or terrace – as the red shades clearly stand out against the water and greenery. For establishing, stable placement is important, ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container. This way the rhizome lies undisturbed, and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a compact water lily with a strong colour, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ is a fitting choice for a natural yet controlled pond design.Note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or by other unforeseen events. This includes both brown leaves and bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Put dwarf water lilies in a planting basket so you can easily adjust their position. If the plant is still small at first, start out higher (shallower) and lower them later – this often encourages quicker growth and flowering.

Dwarf water lily – Nymphaea Pygmaea Alba (18cm)
Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’ – dwarf water lily white-yellowThe dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’, with its white-yellow flowers, adds a serene, elegant touch to the water’s surface. Thanks to its compact growth habit, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds or basins where a classic water lily would be too vigorous. Ideal if you want a delicate floral effect without the pond looking ‘overcrowded’.Dwarf water lily – suitable for smaller pondsFlower colour: white-yellowGrowth habit: compact, with a modest foliage and flower displaySuitable for: garden pond, mini-pond, pot/tank (depending on the setup)Technical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’Common name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: white-yellowPlanting depth: between -10 and -40 cmFlowering period: from June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’, you can create particularly stylish water features – even if your garden pond is rather small or you wish to plant in a mini-pond . Dwarf water lilies are designed to create the classic water lily effect in a limited space: the leaves float on the surface, whilst the delicate water lilies emerge from them. The ‘Alba’ variety impresses with a white-yellow flower colour, which has a very calming effect and can be easily combined with various pond and border plants. The choice of plants is particularly crucial in smaller ponds: water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface. The dwarf water lily remains comparatively more compact and is therefore ideal if you want to keep the water’s surface deliberately open. At the same time, water lilies create a pleasant pond atmosphere: the flowers draw the eye to the water, and the floating leaves give the pond a natural ‘centre’. For good establishment, a stable position is important – ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container, so that the substrate and rhizome are securely in place and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you’re looking for subtle, high-quality blooms and want to opt for a compact water lily, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’ is a suitable choice for a well-maintained, natural-looking pond design. Note on dispatch: We do our utmost to ensure that our plants arrive at your address healthy and undamaged. Despite taking the utmost care, plants may occasionally sustain minor damage during postal delivery or due to other unforeseen circumstances. This includes brown leaves as well as snapped stems. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: With dwarf water lilies, it’s worth placing the plant a little higher to begin with and then lowering it later if necessary – this usually helps it to grow more quickly. If you’re planting in a pot/mini-pond, make sure the water lily gets enough sun and isn’t shaded by plants around the edge.

As the garden comes back to life after winter, it provides a radiant focal point by the water with its yellow flowers from March to May (III–V). Especially at the pond edge, this is particularly valuable: many marginal plants only really start to grow strongly later on – the marsh marigold, on the other hand, brings early colour and appears natural and harmonious. With a growth height of approx. 30 to 40 cm the plant is ideal for the foreground to midground. It fits beautifully on pond margins, in damp border beds or areas that are permanently fresh to wet. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes it perfect for the bank and shallow water edge zone: directly in moist soil at the edge or standing slightly in water. Caltha palustris looks particularly attractive when set in small groups – this creates a calm, natural area that visually softens the pond edge.Delivery in a 9-cm pot makes planting easier. If you want a very clear pond margin or want to keep the position flexible, a planting basket is a practical solution: this keeps the marsh marigold stable in the desired place and allows it to be easily moved if necessary. Thanks to winter hardiness zone 1–2, Caltha palustris is suitable for permanently designed pond installations in many regions and is an uncomplicated choice for easy-care, natural pond edge planting.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the utmost care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the postal service or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken stems. We do not accept any liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Plant the marsh marigold where you often walk past in spring – it’s a perfect starting point for the pond season. If your water level fluctuates greatly in spring, place the plant in the planting basket at 0 to –15 cm so it stays stable and takes root reliably.

Cotton grass is ideally suited to pond landscapes which are designed to look more natural, or where a soft shoreline is deliberately retained. With its grass-like habit, it adds structure to the edge zone without appearing heavy or dominant – ideal if you wish to keep the water area visually open. The white flowers appear from April to June (IV–VI) and add bright highlights early in the year. Especially by the water, this blossom is particularly attractive because, with a calm surface, it is beautifully reflected and brightens up the shore zone. With a height of approximately 30 to 40 cm cotton grass is perfect for the foreground to midground: it pairs well with lower ground covers and is also harmonious next to taller bank plants which can be placed in the background. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes Eriophorum angustifolium ideal for the shore and shallow-water edge zone. Place the plant in damp bank soil or put it in a very shallow water section.Supplied in an 18-cm pot, you receive a good starting volume that makes establishment easier and makes the plant more stable. If you prefer a defined pond edge or wish to keep the position flexible later, a planting basket is a practical solution – this means the plant remains exactly where it shows to best effect. Thanks to winter hardiness zone 1–2 cotton grass is suitable for many regions and is an easy-going choice for perennial pond edge planting. It is particularly attractive if several plants are set slightly offset from one another – this creates a natural shore effect that visually frames the pond harmoniously.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite all due care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by postal transit or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves just as much as bent stems. We do not accept liability for this. Do not plant in open water such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Cotton grass looks best when you place it in small groups in the edge zone (0 to –15 cm) and combine it with calmer green plants. If your water level varies, first set the pot a little higher and lower it gradually after establishment – this usually ensures the plant settles more reliably.

It is exactly this clear form that makes it so popular: it brings structure to the shore planting, appears tidy and creates an exciting contrast to soft-growing marsh and flowering plants. The Cyprus grass appears especially harmonious at modern ponds or clearly defined shorelines – but it can also impress as a deliberate structural focal point in natural-style designs. With a height of approx. 60 to 80 cm, Cyperus alternifolius is suitable for the middle to background of edge plantings. It visually builds up the shore zone without completely covering the pond. The indicated flowering period from May to July (V–VII) complements the seasonal progression, in this plant the focus is usually on the foliage and shape. When planted in small groups it creates a calm, architectural effect; planted individually, the Cyprus grass becomes a real eye-catcher. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes the plant ideal for the shore and shallow water area. You can plant it directly in moist bank soil or place it in the very shallow water zone.Supplied in a 18 cm pot, you receive a strong root volume, which makes it easier to establish and ensures greater stability. For a neat pond edge and maximum control, a planting basket is a practical option – this way, the plant stays where it works best and can easily be moved if required.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Valerian (9 cm) – Valeriana officinalis
Valeriana officinalis – Valerian for pond edge & shoreline zoneValeriana officinalis (valerian) is a stately, natural-looking perennial for moist areas around the garden pond. With a height of 60–100 cm, it adds structure to the shoreline zone without appearing artificial. The flowering period is from May to August (V–VIII), it is suitable for 0 to –15 cm planting depth and hardy in zone 1–2.Flowering period: V–VIII (May to August)Height: approx. 60–100 cmPlanting depth: 0 to –15 cmPot size: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications:You receive a robust shoreline perennial that naturally enhances the pond edge and brings height to the planting.Due to the long flowering period V–VIII, the shoreline zone remains attractive for months and looks well-maintained.Thanks to the planting depth of 0 to –15 cm, valerian can be flexibly placed in moist boundary areas and very shallow zones.Technical data:Botanical name: Valeriana officinalisCommon name: ValerianHeight (cm): 60 / 100 cmPlanting depth: 0 / –15 cmFlowering period: V–VIIIWinter hardiness zone: Zone 1 / 2Pot size: 9 cmWith Valeriana officinalis (valerian) you choose at the garden pond a shoreline perennial that appears especially natural and gives the border planting noticeably more height and depth. Especially with ponds, a “flat” impression can quickly arise if only low plants are present in the border area. Valerian creates a beautiful contrast here: it grows upright, adds volume to the shoreline zone and can be excellently combined with lower pond edge plants, which in the foreground gently soften the transition to the water. The flowering period from May to August (V–VIII) ensures that the pond edge looks lively for much of the season. As there is no information on flower colour, this point remains neutral – in the garden image, however, the overall effect of height, structure and flowering period is often the main focus with valerian. With a growth height of approx. 60 to 100 cm, the plant is ideal for the middle to background of the shoreline planting or for moist border beds next to the pond. The recommended planting depth of 0 to –15 cm makes Valeriana officinalis versatile: Plant it in moist shoreline soil or in very shallow areas, depending on pond structure. Especially with fluctuating water levels, it is advisable to place the plant so that it always gets enough moisture without “standing too deep”.The 9 cm pot is ideal if you want to plant several specimens, to achieve a natural, expansive appearance more quickly. Thanks to zone 1–2, valerian is suitable for perennial pond setups in many regions and is a good choice if you want to design the pond edge to be natural, easy to care for, and with distinct structure.Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may happen that plants are slightly damaged by postal delivery or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as bent stems. We assume no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: If you want a natural shoreline look, do not plant valerian individually, but in small groups (e.g. 3 plants) slightly staggered behind lower border plants. This makes the pond edge appear deeper and more “seasoned”, and the taller stems stand more stably in the overall impression.

Marsh cranesbill (9 cm) – Geranium palustre
Geranium palustre – Marsh cranesbill for the pond edgeGeranium palustre is a robust perennial for damp pond edges and the shallow water margin. Reaching 30–40 cm in height, it remains compact and is ideal for the foreground along the shoreline. The flowering period is from June to August (VI–VIII), it is suitable for planting depths from 0 to –15 cm and is hardy in zones 1–2.Flowering period: VI–VIII (June to August)Height: approx. 30–40 cmPlanting depth: 0 to –15 cmPot size: approx. 9cmProduct specifications:They naturally green the pond edge and create a gentle transition between water and garden. The flowering period VI–VIII provides a vibrant highlight in the bank area during the peak season. Thanks to the planting depth 0 to –15 cm, you can place the plant flexibly at the damp edge or in very shallow water.Technical specifications:Botanical name: Geranium palustre (often also listed as Geranium palustris)Common name: Marsh cranesbillHeight (cm): 30 / 40 cmPlanting depth: 0 / –15 cmFlowering period: VI–VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1 / 2Pot size: 9 cmWith Geranium palustre (marsh cranesbill) you are choosing a perennial that is particularly well suited for damp locations around the garden pond. Zones often develop at the edge of the pond that remain consistently fresh to damp – and this is exactly where marsh cranesbill achieves a natural, calming effect. It closes gaps, visually connects different planting areas and makes the transition between water and garden appear softer. With a height of approx. 30 to 40 cm, the plant remains pleasantly compact. This makes it ideal for the foreground of riverside planting, along stones, edges or stepping stones. Geranium palustre is especially harmonious in small groups: this creates a broad, “natural” look that does not crowd the pond edge and leaves the water surface visible. The flowering period from June to August (VI–VIII) is during the peak season – perfect for keeping the marginal zone looking lively and well-kept in summer. The suggested planting depth of 0 to –15 cm allows for flexible placement. Depending on the pond structure, you can plant the marsh cranesbill directly in moist bank soil or place it right at the very shallow edge. The 9-cm pot is especially suitable if you want to plant several at once, so as to quickly achieve a uniform marginal effect. For a controlled, neat pond edge, a planting basket can be helpful – this means the plant stays where it looks best, and you can easily move it if needed. Thanks to zone 1–2, Geranium palustre is winter-hardy and is therefore a good choice for perennial pond schemes. If you are looking for a low-maintenance, compact perennial for the pond edge that combines well and adds extra vibrancy in summer, this marsh cranesbill makes a suitable addition. Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the utmost care, plants may suffer minor damage in the post or due to other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken stems. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: Plant Geranium palustre at the pond edge as a “link plant” between taller riverside perennials and low groundcovers. At a depth of 0 to –15 cm (or in damp bank soil) it establishes particularly harmoniously – and in small groups, the edge immediately appears more natural.

Dwarf rush (18cm) - Juncus ensifolius
Juncus ensifolius - dwarf rush for the garden pondThe dwarf rush is a compact, grass-like pond edge plant that gives banks and shallow water zones a clean visual structure. At 30-40 cm tall, it is ideal for the edge without obscuring the view of the water. It flowers from June to August (VI-VIII) and is hardy in zones 1-2.Flowering period: VI-VIII (June to August)Flower colour: rust redWinter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2Pot: approx. 18 cmPlant specifications:They give the pond edge a calm, natural structure and neatly fill gaps between stones or plant baskets. The planting depth of 0 to -15 cm allows the dwarf rush to be placed flexibly in marginal and shallow water zones. Thanks to zone 1-2, it is suitable for perennial, low-maintenance pond planting.Technical data:Botanical name: Juncus ensifoliusGerman name: Dwarf rushPlanting depth: up to -15 cmFlowering time: VI-VIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1/2Pot: approx. 18 cmWith Juncus ensifolius (dwarf rush), you can choose a plant for your garden pond that impresses with its clear, grass-like structure. Such "calming elements" are particularly important around ponds: they bring order to the bank planting, make transitions look more natural and prevent the edge area from appearing visually restless. Thanks to its compact height of approx. 30 to 40 cm, the dwarf rush is ideal for the foreground to midground - where you want structure but want the water surface to remain visible. The dwarf rush can be used very flexibly as it is suitable for a planting depth of 0 to -15 cm. This makes it perfect for the bank and shallow water zone: directly in moist marginal soil or standing slightly in the water. It looks particularly attractive when planted in small groups or as a recurring element along the edge of the pond. This creates a natural rhythm that visually "captures" the pond. The flowering period is from June to August (VI-VIII). Even if the flowers are often not the centre of attention with rushes, the seasonal indication gives you a good orientation for the development over the summer.Due to its hardiness (zone 1-2), Juncus ensifolius is suitable for perennial pond installations and is an easy-care addition to naturalised, permanent shoreline areas. For a clean, controllable pond design, we recommend using it in a plant basket, depending on the design. This ensures that the plant remains stable in the desired position and you can easily move or divide it if necessary.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo Roco tip: Use the dwarf rush as a "framing plant": place it along the edge of the pond at a depth of 0 to -15 cm to make transitions between stones, the edge of the liner and higher-growing shore plants appear calmer. The line remains particularly clean and easy to maintain in plant baskets.
