It really couldn't get any smaller! It is probably the smallest Anubias in the world and a real enrichment for any underwater landscape. In cultivation and care it is just as robust as the parent form, but needs a little more light to form beautiful, compact cushions. The dwarf form can already be used in a 10 L Nano Cube. The plants look very natural when tied onto delicate roots. The red bogwood is best suited for this. But the Bonsai Anubias also cuts a fine figure on decorative stones.

The pond liverwort Riccia is found worldwide and colonises floating water surfaces or damp soils. It was Takashi Amano who first introduced this floating moss to the aquarium hobby. In many of his designs, Riccia can be admired as a foreground plant. Cultivation and care are very simple: the moss clumps are tied onto stones or roots, where they can grow beautifully. The compact growth habit is maintained if the light green clumps are trimmed with scissors from time to time. The 'Little Bear' variety has been on the market since 1995 and is still one of the most popular red-leaved varieties. In the aquarium, the plant forms a compact rosette with a rust-red to deep dark red colour. Older plants reach a height of up to 25 cm. As with many Echinodorus varieties, emersed and submerged leaves differ enormously. The 'Little Bear' is bright green in the greenhouse and produces its first red submerged leaves after just a few days in the aquarium. Always a fascinating spectacle!

An attractive novelty from Brazil is the bear’s claw family plant Staurogyne repens. Its appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a “miniature Hygrophila”, but it is an excellent plant for the foreground. It grows very slowly, in good conditions even creeping over the substrate. Staurogyne needs intense light and a good supply of nutrients above the substrate. If the shoot tips are pruned regularly, the plant develops many new side shoots, resulting in a very beautiful, dense plant population. In “aquascaping”, this beauty can be excellently combined with Hemianthus callitrichoides.
