Duckweed portion
Duckweed / Duckweed PortionDuckweed (Lemna minor L) Floating plant suitable for the aquarium also suitable for garden ponds and biotopes Duckweed – a natural floating plant for aquariums, ponds and feed productionDuckweed, also known as water lettuce, is a hardy, fast-growing floating plant suitable for freshwater aquariums, ponds and small rearing tanks. The small, green plants float freely on the water’s surface, reproduce very rapidly under favourable conditions and offer numerous benefits: They remove excess nutrients from the water, provide shade, improve the natural balance and are readily eaten by shrimp, snails, goldfish, ducks and other animals.Breeding and propagationCultivating duckweed is very simple. The plants are placed directly on the water’s surface and require no planting, no substrate and no CO₂ system. With sufficient light, calm water and enough nutrients, they reproduce by division. Under good conditions, the population can increase significantly within a few days. A small container, a nano-aquarium or a plastic tub is sufficient for targeted cultivation. We recommend at least 5 to 10 litres of water, for a more stable and productive culture 20 litres or more. The water should be as still as possible, as duckweed does not tolerate strong currents, splashing water or leaves that are permanently submerged.Optimal conditionsDuckweed is highly adaptable and grows reliably in many freshwater environments. An ideal water temperature of around 18 to 28 °C. Temperatures of approximately 10 to 30 °C are generally tolerated, though growth slows significantly in cooler conditions. The water should be nutrient-rich, for example through the presence of fish, prawns, snails or very sparing use of liquid fertiliser. A pH value in the slightly acidic to slightly alkaline range is suitable; approximately 5.5 to 8.0 is not a problem for most cultures. Water hardness usually plays only a minor role. Above all, sufficient light and a calm water surface are important. A lighting duration of around 8 to 12 hours a day promotes vigorous, green growth.Care instructionsSince duckweed grows very quickly, the population should be thinned out regularly. A completely closed plant canopy can block too much light from reaching other aquarium plants and restrict gas exchange at the water’s surface. You should therefore remove some of the plants using a fine-mesh net or spoon if necessary. To maintain a healthy culture, it is advisable to carry out partial water changes regularly and to remove dead or yellowing plants. In aquariums with strong surface movement, a filter outlet directly at the water’s surface or very nutrient-poor water, growth may be slower.Benefits at a glanceDuckweed is easy to care for, fast-growing and versatile. They help break down nutrients, provide shelter for young fish, naturally shade the aquarium and are ideal as a supplementary food for many aquatic animals. This makes them ideal for aquarists, pond owners and anyone wishing to create a simple, natural plant culture. The delivery consists of a starter batch of live duckweed for further propagation. Please note: Duckweed can spread very rapidly and should not be released into natural water bodies.

Banana leaves – 20 pieces – dried
Banana leaves – natural care and decoration for aquariumsBanana leaves are a natural and decorative addition to freshwater aquariums. They are particularly suitable for shrimp aquariums, blackwater setups and naturally themed tanks. Once in the water, the dried leaves slowly release tannins, helping to create a natural aquarium environment. The leaves provide small fish, shrimp, snails and crabs with sheltered areas to hide in. As they gradually decompose, they create valuable grazing areas and a natural food source for shrimp and snails. Banana leaves are also popular in shrimp breeding, as they provide the animals with places to retreat to and additional surfaces for grazing.Banana leaves are an interesting alternative or addition to sea almond leaves and can be combined very well with other natural materials such as catappa bark, coconut shells, lotus pods or cholla wood.Advantages at a glanceNatural leaves for aquariums and shrimp tanksRelease tannins into the waterCan help to support a natural blackwater environmentProvide hiding places for small fish, shrimp, snails and crayfishUsed as grazing and feeding areas whilst decomposingNaturally dried and untreatedSafe for fish, shrimp, crayfish and snailsContents: 20 piecesUsageUse approximately 1 leaf per 5 litres of aquarium water. The leaves can be placed directly into the aquarium. They usually sink after 48–72 hours and remain effective for around 2–3 weeks. Afterwards, the remains can be removed or left in the aquarium as a natural food source for shrimp and snails. Zoo Roco Tip: Combine banana leaves with catappa leaves, coconut shells or moss-covered stones. This will create a natural arrangement with plenty of hiding places, foraging areas and a particularly harmonious look.

As the leaves slowly decompose, they create valuable grazing areas for shrimp, catfish and other aquarium inhabitants. At the same time, the large leaves provide natural cover and places of refuge. Catappa leaves can also be used decoratively in terrariums and serve as hiding places for small animals or as ground decoration. Catappa leaves are a popular natural product for natural-looking aquariums, blackwater setups and biotope tanks. When stored dry, they have a very long shelf life and are easy to use.Advantages at a glanceLarge Catappa leaves with a length of 21–40 cmRelease natural tannins and humic substancesSupport a natural blackwater appearanceCan promote the well-being of fishProvide grazing areas for shrimp and catfishAlso suitable as decoration and hiding place in the terrarium100 % natural product UsageThe leaves can be placed directly into the aquarium. OsmoVital Salt
Easy-Life OsmoVital Salt – Minerals for stable aquarium waterOsmoVital Salt is a highly soluble hardening and mineral salt, with which you can specifically remineralise osmosis water, demineralised water, filtered rainwater or tap water that is too soft. It increases GH and KH and supplements important trace elements – without nitrate or phosphate.Product features:Hardening and mineral salt for freshwater aquariums Suitable for remineralising osmosis water and very soft water Increases GH (total hardness) and KH (carbonate hardness) Supplements essential vitamins/trace elements (e.g. potassium, iron, manganese, boron, iodide, fluoride) Without nitrate and without phosphate Available pack sizes: 250 g, 500 g, 1000 gAdvantages:Helps to establish a more stable aquatic environment (GH supplies minerals, KH supports the pH buffer) Ideal if your source water is too soft or if you consistently use osmosis water Easy to use when filling for the first time and during water changesDosage:Dosage (guidelines) per 100 litres (1 measuring spoon = 5 g): 1 spoon: GH +2 °d, KH +1.3 °d, +140 µS/cm 2 spoons: GH +4 °d, KH +2.6 °d, +280 µS/cm 3 spoons: GH +6 °d, KH +3.9 °d, +420 µS/cm 4 spoons: GH +8 °d, KH +5.2 °d, +560 µS/cm 5 spoons: GH +10 °d, KH +6.8 °d, +700 µS/cmIf you work with osmosis water or your tap water is very soft, exactly the minerals that fish, invertebrates and plants need for stable conditions are often missing in the aquarium. Easy-Life OsmoVital Salt addresses this directly: As a highly soluble hardening and mineral salt, it enables you to remineralise soft water quickly and in a controlled manner – ideal for initial filling and every water change. The benefit lies in the targeted adjustment of GH and KH. Total hardness (GH) supplies important minerals, while carbonate hardness (KH) supports the pH value in the aquarium as a buffer. In this way, you create a water profile that can be better adapted to the needs of many freshwater inhabitants – especially if you start deliberately with soft source water and want to set your own values. In addition to hardening, OsmoVital Salt also supplements essential trace elements and vitamins. At the same time, it is free from nitrate and phosphate, which can be an advantage especially in well-maintained planted aquariums and with controlled nutrient management. Thanks to its high solubility, the salt can be dosed and mixed in easily. The dosage table helps you with the adjustment: Per 100 litres and 5 g (1 measuring spoon), GH, KH and conductivity increase in clearly defined steps. This means you can accurately achieve your target values instead of remineralising “at random”. For best results, it is recommended to measure the values after preparing the replacement water and readjust in small steps if necessary.Zoo Roco Tip:Ideally, dissolve OsmoVital Salt in the replacement water (bucket/canister), stir well and measure GH/KH afterwards before adding the water to the tank. This prevents fluctuations in the aquarium. If you keep shrimp or special biotope species, consistently set the target values according to their needs – not to “standard values”.
