Advantages of the LED technology are low energy consumption, low heat emission and a long life of the light emitting diodes. Therefore, illuminating terrariums all night long is possible, without hindering the natural nocturnal drop of temperature as with other light sources. Especially nightlight incandescent lamps consume a lot of energy and consequently produce a lot of unwanted heat as well. In addition their ability to illuminate the terrarium properly and allow nighttime viewing is limited.The energy consumption of the LEDs in the Night Sky LED set is merely 0,2W per LED. This is the most energy efficient way to illuminate a terrarium at night.
The Night Sky LED set contains 3 moonlight LEDs and an electric transformer, with which up to 6 LEDs can be powered. Additional LEDs are available separately. The steel reflector focusses the light and also serves as a screen. The protective grille can be placed on the bottom of the reflector to prevent animals from coming into contact with the light source. The lights are supplied ready for use. The necessary accessories are included for installation in the terrarium, but the light must be dismantled for this. For a more convenient installation, a version with a plug-in connection is available. This can be attached to a surface without having to take it apart. The plug-in connection is also compatible with Bright Control ballasts. Plug and Play! A clamp for use as a clamp lamp is available as an accessory. Natural lighting conditions
This is particularly important as it has not yet been possible to simulate natural light conditions in the terrarium. In nature, light intensities of 100,000 lux and more are achieved. A high light intensity is particularly important for the well-being of desert dwellers and influences the colouration and activity of the animals. Although the Bright Sun 70W does not quite come close to the sun with over 60,000 lux at a distance of 30 cm, it is far ahead of mixed-light UV spotlights (approx. 10,000 lux), fluorescent lamps and spotlights.
High energy efficiency
The basis for this high light output is the energy efficiency of the lamp. A large proportion of the energy used is converted into light, whereas with filament lamps 95% of the energy is converted into heat. As a result, the waste heat of the lamps is low and they can also be used in smaller terrariums. Thanks to the efficient reflector design, almost all the heat generated is concentrated in the light focus, making the lamp ideal for creating warm basking areas.
Optimised for desert reptiles
The spectrum of the lamp has been optimised for desert reptiles. Tests have shown that reptiles from desert regions prefer a daylight spectrum with a colour temperature of approx. 6000K. This is achieved by the BrightSun UV Desert. Together with the heat and UV radiation as well as the high illuminance, the animals practically have a small mini sun in the terrarium.
The expected lifespan is over 6000 hours; however, replacement is recommended after one year, as the spectrum begins to change after a certain age due to technological factors, and both UV radiation and overall light output diminish over time. The Bright Sun fits into E27 porcelain sockets, but requires a special ballast such as the Lucky Reptile Bright Control ballasts for operation.
