In the aquarium hobby, the names gourami and gourami refer to different species from different families of labyrinth fish. The popularity of dwarf gouramis (genus Trichogaster) in the aquarium hobby over the centuries is fascinating. The characteristics of these fish: "colourful" and "robust" - are important selection criteria, especially for newcomers to the aquarium hobby.
The responsible aquarist will, of course, offer his fish the best possible conditions despite their robustness. But it is not only pleasant for beginners if a mistake, such as the failure of a filter pump, does not immediately trigger a catastrophe in the fish population – and dwarf gouramis are forgiving of such mistakes.

According to the motto, aquarist or beginner – anyone can be an aquascaper. Book description: Underwater landscapes as if paintedThe underwater landscapes created by aquascaping in the home aquarium look strangely familiar. No wonder, as above-water landscapes serve as a model! The aquatics experts Oliver Knott and Chris Lukhaup show in GU Tier Spezial Aquascaping 30 imaginative furnishing examples, which can be used to create beautiful underwater oases step by step and with little maintenance. Aquariums can "just" be set up – or "scaped". Aquascaping, the aesthetic shaping of underwater landscapes, is absolutely on trend and is easier to implement than the artistic creations might suggest. Nature serves as inspiration: a rock formation, a group of trees, a mountain range, or a section of a valley. Oliver Knott, world champion in aquascaping, and the aquatics photographer and invertebrate expert Chris Lukhaup show how to conjure up magnificent underwater landscapes. The eye lingers gladly in them and the inhabitants visibly feel at home. The size of the tank is not decisive, as the design examples from Small (up to 20-litre tanks) to Medium (20 to 60 litres) to Large (from 60 litres) show. Step-by-step instructions and design plans make everything easy to follow and bring lost valleys, green mountains or summery hills to life. There is also important information needed for setting up, in text and pictures – from substrate and decoration to plants and animal inhabitants. This guide shows: Aquascaping is not only for professionals – anyone can do it! In addition to extras, such as the illustrative design and planting plans, the standard work Aquascaping impresses with the brilliant photos by Chris Lukhaup. With their help, the different set-up phases are documented step by step. Many tips, info boxes, checklists and overview photo pages also offer quick and clear access for future underwater gardeners. Oliver Knott, trained pet shop retailer, is world champion in aquascaping and has earned an excellent reputation in his field thanks to his many international successes in aqua-design competitions. In 2010, he opened his own training centre, where he offers specialist retailers and interested aquarists, among other things, special courses in aquascaping.Chris Lukhaup has dedicated himself to invertebrates for many years. He has caught, photographed and studied over 500 species himself. He writes books and articles about these animals, serves on the advisory board of numerous aquatics magazines and works as a research assistant for museums and universities in Germany and abroad.
