Cockroaches are among the most resistant food insects. They are undemanding both in terms of keeping and shipping. They can usually go without food for several days, even weeks, and can easily cope with hot and cold temperatures during shipping.

Therefore, desert locusts are up to 30% larger than, for example, the migratory locust (Locusta migratoria). The animals are coloured pink-grey after their final moult. In the following 6-10 days, the colouring, especially of the males, changes to a strong yellow. However, the animals show their most attractive colouring and patterns during the juvenile and subadult stages. Here, the animals are also coloured lemon yellow with a black pattern.
