Technical data

  • Botanical name: Achillea ptarmic
  • German name: Achillea / Yarrow
  • Height: 30 / 50 cm
  • Depth: 0 / –15 cm
  • Flowering period: VI–VII Zone: 1 / 2
  • Planting depth/site depth: 0 to –15 cm

Achillea ptarmica is an elegant perennial with white flowers that is particularly suitable for landscaping around the garden pond. It brings lightness to the edge, where a clear transition between water plants and garden beds is often required.

At a growth height of approx. 30 to 50 cm, the plant remains pleasantly compact and thus fits perfectly into the foreground to midground of the bank planting. By the pond, Achillea ptarmica is especially harmonious when planted in small groups: The white flowers create clear, friendly accents and can be very well combined with typical pond edge plants and ornamental grasses.

The flowering period from June to July is ideal for visibly enlivening the border zone in early summer – precisely when many pond plantings are taking shape and the garden is being used more again. For use at the garden pond, the indication 0 to –15 cm is a good reference: place the perennial in the bank or border zone, where the soil remains evenly moist.

Depending on the pond setup, this may mean standing directly at the edge in moist soil or being used in a planting basket in a very shallow area. It is important that the location does not dry out permanently so that the plant remains vital and develops stably. Achillea ptarmica is supplied in a P9 pot (approx. 9–10 cm). Thanks to winter hardiness zone 1–2 it is suitable for many locations and is an appropriate choice for long-lasting, easy-care pond edge planting.

Note on shipping: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the utmost care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by postal shipping or other unforeseen events (e.g. brown leaves or broken shoots). We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.

Zoo-Roco tip: Plant Achillea ptarmica in small groups (e.g. 3–5 plants), so that the white flowers in the bed appear calm and "flat". After flowering, light pruning often encourages neat new growth.

Only healthy, clean leaves should be harvested for culinary use and washed thoroughly before use. Only use plants from controlled cultivation and not from ponds with fish medications, fertiliser residues or unknown water quality.

Dwarf water lily – Nymphaea Pygmaea Rubra
Dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ red (18cm)The dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ brings an elegant splash of colour to the water’s surface with its red flowers. Thanks to its compact form, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds as well as mini ponds and bowls. Ideal if you want a water lily that doesn’t take up too much space.Dwarf-form water lily – suitable for small water areasFlower colour: redGrowth: compact, for a controlled leaf areaArea of application: Garden pond, mini pond, tub/bowlTechnical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’English name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: redPlanting depth: -10 to -40cmFlowering period: June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ you bring the typical water lily atmosphere into the garden – even if your pond is rather small or you want to plant in a mini pond or tub. Dwarf water lilies are designed to unfold a harmonious effect in a limited space: Floating leaves on the surface and an attractive blossom, without the water area being quickly completely covered. The ‘Rubra’ variety creates an elegant, easily visible splash of colour with its red flowers.Especially with smaller garden ponds, balanced planting is crucial. Water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface and “close” the water effect. In comparison, a dwarf water lily remains more compact and is therefore a good choice if you want a calm, well-kept look and nevertheless do not want to do without the classic water lily eye-catcher. ‘Rubra’ is particularly effective when positioned so that you have a good view of the flowers from your seat or terrace – as the red shades clearly stand out against the water and greenery. For establishing, stable placement is important, ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container. This way the rhizome lies undisturbed, and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a compact water lily with a strong colour, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ is a fitting choice for a natural yet controlled pond design.Note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or by other unforeseen events. This includes both brown leaves and bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Put dwarf water lilies in a planting basket so you can easily adjust their position. If the plant is still small at first, start out higher (shallower) and lower them later – this often encourages quicker growth and flowering.

Its compact growth habit makes it particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds or basins where a classic water lily would be too vigorous. Ideal if you want a delicate floral effect without the pond looking ‘overgrown’.Dwarf water lily – suitable for smaller pondsFlower colour: white-yellowGrowth: compact, with a modest foliage and flower displaySuitable for: garden pond, mini-pond, pots/basins (depending on setup)Technical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’Common name: dwarf water lilyFlower colour: white-yellowPlanting depth: between -10 and -40cmFlowering period: from June to September\nPot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’, you can create particularly stylish water features – even if your garden pond is rather small or you wish to plant in a mini-pond . Dwarf water lilies are made to create the typical water lily effect in a limited space: the leaves float on the surface, whilst the delicate water lilies appear. The ‘Alba’ variety impresses with a white-yellow flower colour, which has a very calming effect and can be easily combined with various pond and marginal plants.\n\nPlant selection is especially critical in small ponds: overly vigorous water lilies can quickly dominate the surface. The dwarf water lily stays comparatively more compact and is therefore very well suited if you wish to keep the water surface deliberately open. At the same time, water lilies create a pleasant pond atmosphere: the flowers draw the eye to the water, and the floating leaves give the pond a natural ‘centre’.\n\nFor good establishment, stable placement is important – ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container, so that the substrate and rhizome are secure and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a subtle, high-quality flowering effect and would like to opt for a compact water lily, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Alba’ is a suitable choice for a neat, natural-looking pond design. Note on shipping: We do our utmost to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, plants may occasionally be slightly damaged during postal delivery or due to other unforeseen circumstances. This includes brown leaves as well as snapped stems. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: With dwarf water lilies, it is worth placing the plant a little higher to start with and then lowering it later if necessary – this usually helps it to grow more quickly. If you are planting in a pot/mini-pond, ensure that the water lily gets enough sun and is not shaded by marginal plants.

Creeping Mazus blue (18cm) - Mazus reptans
Creeping Mazus for the garden pond – Mazus reptans blueMazus reptans blue is a low-growing ground cover that quickly greens the damp edge areas around the garden pond. The white flowers appear from April to September (IV–IX) and provide a neat, fresh impression for a long time. Thanks to zone 1–2, the plant is suitable for perennial plantings.Flowering period: IV–IX (April to September)Flower colour: blueWinter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2Pot: approx. 18 cmPlant specificationsThey quickly close gaps at the edge of the pond and create a natural, soft transition between water and garden. The long flowering period IV–IX keeps the border attractive for many months. The low, creeping growth looks neat and helps to reduce open soil in damp areas.Technical data:Botanical name: Mazus reptans (blue)German name: Creeping MazusHeight: 10 - 15 cmPlanting depth: Bank zoneFlowering period: VI–IXWinter hardiness zone: Zone 1/2 With Mazus reptans blue you get a reliable ground cover for damp locations – ideal for landscaping around the garden pond. Especially at the banks, in the marsh zone or along streams, small gaps often occur where open soil remains visible. Here, creeping Mazus provides a natural finish: it grows flat, visually connects different planting areas and makes the transition from water to garden appear much softer.A particular advantage is the long flowering period from April to September (IV–IX). In this way, Mazus reptans brings bright accents to the border planting for many months and at the same time looks neat, without you having to constantly replant or touch up. The white flowers fit into virtually any pond design – whether naturalistic or more modern – and can be easily combined with taller waterside plants. This makes Mazus particularly suitable as a "carpet" in the foreground, while structure-giving pond plants complete the picture behind it.For placement at the garden pond we recommend a location that stays evenly damp. Plant the Mazus where you want a dense finish – for example at the pond edge, between stones or at the edge of stepping stones. This not only keeps the bank zone visually calmer, it also appears more stable and less "torn up". As there is no information on height, planting depth and pot size, these points remain neutral; in practice, the main thing is a damp, suitable location at the edge.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive with you healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by postal delivery or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo-Roco tip: Plant Mazus reptans white at the pond edge where you want to break up "hard edges" – e.g. between stones or along the liner edge. If the location becomes temporarily drier in summer, a thin layer of fine gravel or mulch at the edge will help to keep the soil moist for longer.

It is particularly suitable for the bank zone and shallow water areas, where its upright growth and white flowers create a calm, neat pond look. Its presence creates a harmonious transition between the water surface and the garden, without appearing too low or too dominant. The long flowering period from June to September (VI-IX) is a big plus. This means that your pond edge planting remains attractive for many weeks and creates bright accents that are beautifully reflected in the water. Growing to a height of approx. 60 to 80 cm, the frogspoon is ideal for adding structure to the edge planting - for example behind lower shallow water plants or as a natural background for flowering companions. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -40 cm gives you plenty of room for manoeuvre: plant the frogspoon directly in the moist bank zone or a little deeper in the shallow water area, depending on the pond structure and the desired effect. For neat, controlled planting, we recommend using a plant basket - this keeps the position stable and makes it easier to move or divide the plant if necessary. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-3, Alisma plantago-aquatica is suitable for many regions and fits well in permanent garden ponds. In this way, you can create a pond edge planting with little effort that looks natural and provides reliable structure throughout the season.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: It is best to plant the frogspoon in small groups (e.g. 3 plants) in the shallow water zone - this gives the planting a more natural look and harmoniously fills gaps at the edge of the pond. If you want a clear pond edge, use a plant basket so that the plant stays where you have planned it.

The variegated calamus is ideal for visually calming the transition between the water surface and the garden: It looks natural, but remains compact and controllable. This plant is a particularly harmonious choice in places where you want clean lines - for example along pond edges, in shallow bays or in small shoreline areas. The ideal place is in the shore to shallow water zone. The specified planting depth of 0 to -15 cm allows for flexible use: directly on the moist edge or standing slightly in the water. Thanks to its height of approx. 20 to 30 cm, the calamus remains pleasantly low so that it does not obstruct the view of the water surface. At the same time, it provides structure between higher-growing bank plants and lower ground cover plants. The variegated calamus is particularly valuable in pond design because it combines well with many other pond and marsh plants. It is suitable for both naturalistic planting schemes and more modern pond designs that emphasise clear shapes and calm areas. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, it is also suitable for perennial pond edge planting. The plant is supplied in a pot (approx. 10 cm). For easy handling around the pond, we recommend using it in a plant basket - depending on the structure - so that the location remains stable and you can easily move the plant if necessary.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events (e.g. brown leaves or broken shoots). We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: Place the variegated calamus in the most beautiful spot where you walk past it every day: It looks particularly elegant when planted in small groups and its fine leaves are reflected in the water. For more control, we recommend using a planting basket - this will keep the edges neat and you can easily divide or reposition the plant later.

Arum italicum (9cm) - Arum italicum
Arum italicum - arumArum italicum is a striking structural plant for moist, semi-shady to shady edges around the garden pond. It flowers between April and June.Flower colour: redFlowering period: IV-VI (April to June)Height: approx. 30-40 cmPot: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications:Ideal for structuring bank areas and damp garden spotsFits well in shadier pond edge zones, where classic flowering plants are often weakerSuitable for perennial design (hardy)Technical dataBotanical name: Arum italicumGerman name: ArumFlowering time: IV-VIWinter hardiness: Zone 1Height: 30 / 40 cmDepth: 0 / -40 cmWith Arum italicum (arum), you are choosing a plant for your garden pond that is particularly impressive due to its structuring effect. There are often areas around ponds that are permanently slightly damp and are also occasionally shaded - this is exactly where the arum shows its strengths. It is suitable for visually defining edge zones, calming transitions and harmoniously complementing the planting without the pond edge appearing overloaded. The plant reaches a height of approx. 30 to 40 cm and therefore fits well in the foreground to midground. Arum italicum is particularly attractive for the early season: the flowering period from April to June (IV-VI) already brings life to the edge planting when many summer-flowering pond plants are still being established. This creates a harmonious annual cycle - with an early accent that keeps your pond design interesting for longer. For the location, the specified planting depth of 0 to -40 cm is a guide value for moist areas by the water. In the garden pond, we recommend placing the plant in the moist bank zone or in an easily controllable area so that you can easily control its growth. In permanently wet areas, a stable position is important - depending on the pond structure, a plant basket can help to position the plant securely and move it if necessary. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1, Arum italicum is suitable for long-term, perennial landscaping. This makes Arum italicum an interesting choice if you are looking for robust structural plants for damp, cooler locations.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo Roco tip: In garden ponds, arum looks particularly beautiful behind low shallow-water plants, where it "builds up" the edge zone without obstructing the view of the water. Place it in the moist bank soil rather than freely in the open water - this keeps the plant stable and the edge of the pond neat.

There are often areas around the garden pond that are evenly moist and need a plant that gives the edge a natural look without becoming too tall. This is exactly what English water mint is suitable for: it brings structure to the bank zone and ensures a neat, flowering overall appearance in the second half of summer. The flowering period from July to September (VII-IX) is particularly valuable when many spring and early summer bloomers are already fading. This keeps your pond edge attractive for longer and gives it a lively appearance even at the height of the season. With a height of approx. 30 to 40 cm, Preslia cervina 'Alba' can be used in a variety of ways: as a quiet border, as a filling plant between stones and edges or as a companion to higher-growing shore plants. Planted in groups, it creates a harmonious area that visually softens the transition between water and garden. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes it suitable for the bank and shallow water zone. Depending on the pond structure, you can either place the plant directly in moist soil around the edge or slightly into the water, where it will stand securely. The 18 cm pot is particularly practical as it already has a good volume and makes it easier to place in the pond. If you want a very clear pond edge or want to keep the plant in check, a plant basket is a good option - this keeps everything tidy and you can adjust the position at any time. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, Preslia cervina 'Alba' is suitable for permanent garden ponds and is a harmonious choice if you are looking for a reliable, compact flowering plant for the edge of the pond.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: If you want a "clean line" at the edge of the pond, put Preslia cervina 'Alba' in a plant basket and place it in the shallow water zone (up to approx. -15 cm). This keeps the plant where it works best - and you can easily move it around if necessary.

It is tall enough to be visible, but remains so compact that the water surface is not completely obscured. For a clean, controllable pond design, a planting basket is often practical – especially as the position at the pond edge can be easily adjusted. The 9 cm pot is ideal if you want to plant several specimens to achieve a uniform structural effect. Thanks to Zone 1–2, Juncus effusus ‘Spiralis’ is winter-hardy and suitable for perennial pond installations.
