Product information "Pennywort (9cm) - Lysimachia nummularia"

Pennywort - Lysimachia nummularia

Pennywort is a flat-growing ground cover for damp edges around the garden pond. Yellow flowers appear from May to August (V-VIII) and brighten up the edge of the pond. At a height of 5-10 cm, it is ideal for greening edges, gaps and bank areas.

  • Flowering time: V-VIII (May to August)
  • Flower colour: yellow
  • Winter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2
  • Pot: approx. 9 cm

Plant specifications:

  • They quickly close gaps at the edge of the pond and create a natural, soft transition to the water surface.
  • The yellow flowers in V-VIII bring colour to the shoreline for months.
  • The low growth remains tidy and is hardy in zones 1-2 - ideal for permanent pond design.

Technical data:

  • Botanical name: Lysimachia nummularia
  • German name: Pfenningkraut
  • Planting depth: up to -40 cm
  • Flowering time: V-VIII
  • Winter hardiness: Zone 1/2
  • Pot: approx. 9 cm

Lysimachia nummularia (pennywort) is a reliable, low-growing ground cover for your garden pond. The edges of banks in particular often have areas where open soil remains visible or hard transitions (e.g. stones, liner edges, plant baskets) appear visually "cut off". This is exactly where pennywort is ideal: it grows creeping, connects areas and creates a natural, soft line along the water.

During the flowering period from May to August (V-VIII), yellow flowers appear, giving the edge area a lively appearance without dominating it. With a height of just 5 to 10 cm, the plant remains deliberately low - ideal if you want to keep a clear view of the water surface. Pennywort can be used in a variety of ways around the garden pond: as a border along the edge of the pond, between stones, on the edge of stepping stones or as a "carpet" in front of taller waterside plants. It looks particularly attractive if you plant several plants close together to quickly create a closed area.

An evenly moist location is important for good growth - especially in marginal zones, which can dry out more quickly in summer. As there is no information on the exact planting depth, the recommendation remains practical: plant Lysimachia nummularia in moist bank soil or at the edge of the swamp zone where the soil does not become permanently dry. This allows the shoots to develop stably and the plant can utilise its ground-covering effect. Thanks to zone 1-2, it is also well suited for perennial pond edge designs.

Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.

Zoo Roco tip: If you want to conceal a foil edge: Place the pennywort directly in front of it and allow it to "flow" slightly over stones or edges. This gives the edge of the pond a more natural look - and you get a neat finish without tall plants obscuring the view.

Cardinal lobelia (9cm) - Lobelia cardinalis
Cardinal lobelia - Lobelia cardinalisThe cardinal lobelia is an eye-catching colour accent for the garden pond and brings vibrancy to the banks with its red flowers. At a height of 60-80 cm, it is ideal as a structuring plant in the background of low border plantings. It is suitable for planting depths of 0 to -15 cm and is hardy in zones 1-2.Flowering time: V-VIII (May to August)Flower colour: redWinter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2Pot: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications:They create a clear, red eye-catcher at the edge of the pond and visibly enliven the shoreline. Thanks to its planting depth of 0 to -15 cm, the cardinal lobelia is ideal for the edge and shallow water zone.Zone 1-2 makes it suitable for perennial pond design in many regions.Technical data:Botanical name: Lobelia cardinalisGerman name: Cardinal lobeliaPlanting depth: 0 to -15 cmFlowering time: V-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1/2Pot: approx. 9 cmWith Lobelia cardinalis (cardinal lobelia), you are bringing a pond edge plant into your garden that can do one thing above all else: Show its colours. The bright red flowers make it the ideal eye-catcher around the garden pond - especially where many green and yellow tones dominate and a clear accent is desired. Due to its growth height of approx. 60 to 80 cm, it adds structure to the bank planting and is ideal as a background plant, in front of which lower ground cover and shallow water plants come into their own.The specified flowering period from May to August (V-VIII) ensures that your pond edge will look lively for a long time. For a harmonious overall look, we recommend planting in small groups or as a recurring element along the shoreline. This creates a natural, well thought-out design without the pond edge becoming unruly. The cardinal lobelia looks particularly attractive when the flowers are slightly above the waterline - the colour is reflected in the water and enhances the effect. With a recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm, Lobelia cardinalis is ideal for the edge and shallow water zone. Depending on the pond structure, place the plant directly in moist bank soil or in a very shallow water area. A plant basket can help to keep the position stable and make it easier to move the plant if necessary - especially if you want to adapt the design seasonally. Thanks to zone 1-2, the cardinal lobelia is suitable for many regions and is an exciting choice if you want to create a permanent pond edge but still want to work with clear colour accents.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: It is best to place Lobelia cardinalis in the shallow water zone so that the roots are evenly moist (0 to -15 cm) - this ensures stable growth. For a particularly attractive look, place the plant where it can be reflected in the water and combine it in the foreground with low ground cover plants at the edge of the pond.

Eriophorum angustifolium - Cottongrass for pond edgesEriophorum angustifolium (cotton grass) brings a light, natural effect to the garden pond with its white flowers from April to June (IV-VI). At a height of 30-40 cm, it is ideal for bank and shallow water zones. The recommended planting depth is 0 to -15 cm and the plant is hardy in zones 1-2.Flower colour: whiteFlowering time: IV-VI (April to June)Height: approx. 30-40 cmPot size: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications: They create a particularly natural-looking pond edge and bring an airy, "meadow-like" structure to the bank zone. The flowering period IV-VI provides bright accents in spring, which look particularly good by the water. Thanks to zone 1-2, cotton grass is suitable for perennial, low-maintenance pond planting.Technical data:Botanical name: Eriophorum angustifoliumGerman name: Cotton grassHeight (cm): 30 / 40 cmPlanting depth: 0 / -15 cmWinter hardiness: Zone 1 / 2Pot size: 9 cmEriophorum angustifolium (cottongrass) is a plant that creates a particularly natural, light effect in the garden pond. Cottongrass is an excellent choice for ponds that are designed to be close to nature or deliberately have a soft shoreline. Its grass-like growth brings structure to the edge zone without appearing heavy or dominant - ideal if you want to keep the water surface visually open. The white flowers appear from April to June (IV-VI) and create bright accents early in the year. This flower is particularly attractive by the water because it reflects beautifully on a calm surface and "brightens up" the shoreline. With a height of approx. 30 to 40 cm , cotton grass is perfect for the foreground to middle ground: it combines well with lower ground cover plants and also looks harmonious next to taller shore plants that can be placed in the background. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes Eriophorum angustifolium ideal for the shore and shallow water edge zone. Place the plant in moist bank soil or in a very shallow water area.If you prefer a clear pond edge or want to keep the position flexible later on, a plant basket is a practical solution - this keeps the plant exactly where it looks best. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2 , cotton grass is suitable for many regions and is an uncomplicated choice for perennial pond edge planting. It looks particularly attractive if you plant several plants slightly staggered - this creates a natural bank effect that harmonises the look of the pond.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo Roco tip: Cottongrass looks best when placed in small groups in the edge zone (0 to -15 cm) and combined with quieter green plants. If your water level fluctuates, place the pot a little higher at first and lower it gradually as it grows - the plant will usually take off more reliably this way.

It is hardy in zones 1-2.Area of application: Pond edge / swamp zone / moist border bedsFlowering time: V-VIII (May to August)Flower colour: shades of blueHeight: approx. 20-40 cmWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 9 cmPlant specifications:They quickly green up damp pond edges and create a natural, soft transition from the water to the garden. The long flowering period V-VIII means that the edge zone remains attractive for months. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for perennial garden pond planting. Technical data:Botanical name: Myosotis palustrisGerman name: marsh forget-me-notHeight: 20 / 40 cmPlanting depth: not specifiedFlowering time: V-VIIIWinter hardiness: Zone 1-2Pot: approx. 9 cmMyosotis palustris (marsh forget-me-not) is a classic plant for the bank and marsh zone around the garden pond. It is ideal if you want to create a natural, gentle transition between the water surface and the garden. The marsh forget-me-not really comes into its own in damp areas where many bedding plants struggle: It looks light, friendly and blends harmoniously into mixed pond edge plantings. One major advantage is the long flowering period from May to August (V-VIII). This means that the edge zone remains lively and visually attractive for months. With a height of approx. 20 to 40 cm, the plant is particularly suitable for the foreground at the edge of the pond or as a filling element between stones, stepping stones and other shore plants. Planted in small groups, it creates a calm, flat effect that quickly looks natural and reliably closes gaps. Myosotis palustris is particularly interesting for pond design if you want a planting that is not too tall and does not obscure the view of the water. Place the plant in evenly moist soil at the edge or in the swamp zone - there it can establish itself well. The pot (approx. 18 cm) provides a solid starting volume and makes it easier to place in the desired location. If you prefer a clear edge to the pond, a plant basket can be useful to keep the plant where it will look best. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, the marsh forget-me-not is suitable for permanent garden ponds and is an uncomplicated addition to near-natural bank plantings.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: For a particularly natural look, place the marsh forget-me-not in small groups along the shoreline. If you are unsure how wet the location should be: place the plant on the wet edge first (not too deep in the water) - this makes it easy to find the perfect area by the garden pond.

When the garden starts up again after the winter, its yellow flowers from March to May (III-V) provide a bright eye-catcher by the water. This is particularly valuable at the edge of the pond: many waterside plants only sprout vigorously later - the marsh marigold, on the other hand, brings colour early and looks natural and harmonious. With a growth height of approx. 30 to 40 cm , the plant is ideal for the foreground to midground. It is ideal for the edges of ponds, in damp border beds or in areas that are permanently fresh to wet. The recommended planting depth of 0 to -15 cm makes it perfect for the bank and shallow water edge zone: directly in moist soil at the edge or standing slightly in the water. Caltha palustris looks particularly beautiful when planted in small groups - this creates a calm, natural area that visually softens the edge of the pond.Delivery in a 9 cm pot makes planting easier. If you want a very clear pond edge or want to keep the position flexible, a plant basket is a practical solution: it keeps the marsh marigold stable in the desired place and can be easily moved if necessary. Thanks to its hardiness zone 1-2, Caltha palustris is suitable for permanent pond installations in many regions and is an uncomplicated choice for easy-care, near-natural pond edge planting.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Creeping Mazus blue (9cm) - Mazus reptans
Creeping Mazus for the garden pond - Mazus reptans blueMazus reptans blue is a low-growing ground cover that quickly green up damp areas around the edge of a garden pond. The white flowers appear from April to September (IV-IX) and provide a neat, fresh look for a long time. Thanks to zone 1-2, the plant is suitable for perennial planting.Flowering time: IV-IX (April to September)Flower colour: blueWinter hardiness: Zone 1 - 2Pot: approx. 9 cmPlant specificationsThey quickly close gaps at the edge of the pond and create a natural, soft transition between the water and the garden. The long flowering period IV-IX keeps the border attractive for many months. The low, creeping growth looks neat and helps to reduce open soil in moist areas.Technical data:Botanical name: Mazus reptans (blue)German name: Creeping MazusHeight: 10 - 15 cmPlanting depth: Bank zoneFlowering time: VI-IXWinter hardiness: Zone 1/2 Mazus reptans blue is a reliable ground cover for moist locations - ideal for landscaping around the garden pond. Small gaps often appear along the edges of banks, in the swamp zone or along streams where open soil remains visible. Here, creeping Mazus provides a natural finish: it grows flat, visually connects different planting areas and makes the transition from water to garden appear much softer.A particular advantage is the long flowering period from April to September (IV-IX). This means that Mazus reptans brings bright accents to the border for many months and at the same time looks well-groomed without you having to constantly replant or mend. The white flowers go well with practically any pond design - whether natural or more modern - and can be combined well with taller waterside plants. This makes the Mazus particularly suitable as a "carpet" in the foreground, while structure-giving pond plants round off the picture behind it.For placement by the garden pond, we recommend a location that remains evenly moist. Place the Mazus where you want a dense border - for example at the edge of the pond, between stones or at the edge of stepping stones. This not only keeps the bank zone visually calmer, it also looks more stable and less "torn up". As there is no information on height, planting depth and pot size, these points remain neutral; in practice, a moist, suitable location at the edge is particularly important.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, plants may be slightly damaged by post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: Plant Mazus reptans white at the edge of the pond where you want to break up "hard edges" - e.g. between stones or along the edge of the liner. If the location becomes drier at times in summer, a thin layer of fine gravel or mulch at the edge will help to keep the soil moist for longer.

Thanks to its compact form, it is particularly suitable for smaller garden ponds as well as mini ponds and bowls. Ideal if you want a water lily that doesn’t take up too much space.Dwarf-form water lily – suitable for small water areasFlower colour: redGrowth: compact, for a controlled leaf areaArea of application: Garden pond, mini pond, tub/bowlTechnical dataBotanical name: Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’English name: Dwarf water lilyFlower colour: redPlanting depth: -10 to -40cmFlowering period: June to September Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith the dwarf water lily Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ you bring the typical water lily atmosphere into the garden – even if your pond is rather small or you want to plant in a mini pond or tub. Dwarf water lilies are designed to unfold a harmonious effect in a limited space: Floating leaves on the surface and an attractive blossom, without the water area being quickly completely covered. The ‘Rubra’ variety creates an elegant, easily visible splash of colour with its red flowers.Especially with smaller garden ponds, balanced planting is crucial. Water lilies that grow too vigorously can quickly dominate the surface and “close” the water effect. In comparison, a dwarf water lily remains more compact and is therefore a good choice if you want a calm, well-kept look and nevertheless do not want to do without the classic water lily eye-catcher. ‘Rubra’ is particularly effective when positioned so that you have a good view of the flowers from your seat or terrace – as the red shades clearly stand out against the water and greenery. For establishing, stable placement is important, ideally in a planting basket or a suitable container. This way the rhizome lies undisturbed, and you can adjust the position if necessary. If you are looking for a compact water lily with a strong colour, Nymphaea pygmaea ‘Rubra’ is a fitting choice for a natural yet controlled pond design.Note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it may occur that plants are slightly damaged during postal delivery or by other unforeseen events. This includes both brown leaves and bent branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open waters such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo-Roco tip: Put dwarf water lilies in a planting basket so you can easily adjust their position. If the plant is still small at first, start out higher (shallower) and lower them later – this often encourages quicker growth and flowering.

If you want a very clear pond edge or want to keep the position flexible, a plant basket is a practical solution: this keeps the marsh marigold stable in the desired place and can be easily moved if necessary. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes. Zoo Roco tip: Place the marsh marigold where you often walk past in spring - it is a perfect starting point for the pond season. If the water level fluctuates greatly in spring, place the plant in the plant basket at a depth of 0 to -15 cm so that it remains stable and grows reliably.

Acorus calamus - calamus for pond edges & shallow waterAcorus calamus is a robust pond edge plant with a grass-like growth habit that naturally structures the shoreline. At 60-80 cm tall, it is ideal as a background plant for the shallow water and swamp zone. It can be planted at a depth of 0 to -40 cm and is hardy in zones 2-3.Area of use: Pond edge / bank zone / shallow water zoneHeight: approx. 60-80 cmPlanting depth: 0 to -40 cmWinter hardiness/zone: Zone 2-3Plant specifications: They give the edge of the pond a calm, natural structure and create a clean transition between the water and the garden. Thanks to the planting depth of 0 to -40 cm, calamus can be used flexibly from the wet edge to the shallow water area.At zone 2-3, the plant is suitable for perennial pond systems and remains easy to care for.Technical data:Botanical name: Acorus calamusGerman name: KalmusHeight (cm): 60 / 80 cmPlanting depth: 0 / -40 cmWinter zone hardiness: Zone 2 / 3Pot size: approx. 18 cmWith a growth height of approx. 60 to 80 cm, Acorus calamus fits particularly well in the middle to background of the bank planting. It can be perfectly combined with lower ground cover and shallow water plants, which soften the edge at the front, while the calamus provides height and structure behind it. This creates a balanced overall picture that looks natural and visually "frames" the pond without hiding the water surface. A major advantage is the flexible planting depth of 0 to -40 cm. This allows you to plant Acorus calamus in moist bank soil as well as in shallow water - depending on the structure of your pond. For many pond owners, a plant basket is a practical solution because the plant is stable and can be moved more easily if necessary. In landscaped ponds in particular, this helps to keep the edge zone neat and tidy. Due to its stated winter hardiness (zone 2-3), calamus is suitable for perennial pond installations in many regions. This makes it a good choice if you are looking for a long-lasting, low-maintenance structural plant that reliably complements the pond edge and blends in well with different planting concepts - from natural to modern.Shipping note: We make every effort to ensure that our plants arrive healthy and undamaged. Despite the greatest care, it can happen that plants are slightly damaged by the post or other unforeseen events. This includes brown leaves as well as broken branches. We accept no liability for this. Do not plant in open bodies of water such as lakes or biotopes.Zoo Roco tip: Place Acorus calamus in the shallow water zone so that the stems "frame" the edge slightly, but the view into the water remains clear. If you want to keep the growth under control, place the calamus in a plant basket and place it at a depth of 0 to -40 cm - this will keep the shoreline clean and adaptable at all times.
