The dwarf needle sedge Eleocharis pusilla is native to Australia and New Zealand, where it colonises wetlands with different water levels. In contrast to Eleocharis acicularis, its growth height is significantly shorter, usually only a few centimetres high. Another distinguishing feature is the light green, slightly curved stems of the dwarf needle sedge. This grass plant grows optimally in cooler water; it cannot tolerate permanently higher temperatures above 25° C. For stone layouts in the style of Iwagumi, this delicate beauty is ideal for creating a fresh "summer meadow". Like the needle sedge, the dwarf needle sedge is also easy to cut back, making the plant even denser and more compact.Aquatic plants in vitroIn vitro plants are cultivated in the laboratory under sterile conditions. The needle sedge Eleocharis acicularis is found all over the world. It is a particularly graceful, grass-like plant for the foreground. It prefers cooler water, but grows satisfactorily even at higher temperatures. A dense carpet of plants gradually forms through runners. When planting emersed plants, it is advisable to cut them back completely and divide the plant cushion. The cut rootstocks are inserted every 5 cm. The first submerged blades of grass will sprout after just a few days.
