Sri Lanka is home to many species of calyx, including Cryptocoryne beckettii. It has also been successfully cultivated in aquaria for decades. In its natural habitat, it can be found in shady spots on the banks of streams and rivers, where it grows amphibiously above and below the water. The colouring of its submerged leaves varies from green to brown tones. Different leaf colours in one and the same species are typical of the genus Cryptocoryne.

It is a natural hybrid between Cryptocoryne griffithii and Cryptocoryne cordata. The type described here originates from Borneo with an unusual marbling of the leaf blades. Its growth is significantly slower than that of other known species of water calyx in the aquarium hobby. With a growth height of approx. 10 cm (previous cultivation experience in the aquarium), it remains relatively small in size and can therefore be used well in the foreground, depending on the size of the tank. As with all Cryptocorynes, a nutrient-rich substrate is very important, as many nutrients are absorbed via the roots.Aquatic plants in vitroIn vitro plants are cultivated in the laboratory under sterile conditions.
