A very attractive stem plant is Hottonia palustris. The filigree and feathery leaves are reminiscent of a Limophila or Myriophyllum species. The plant can be used well in the middle to background. It is highly recommended as an alternative to the invasive (trade ban) Cabomba carolinia.
The water feather is a very graceful plant with feathery leaves. It has long been known in aquaristics as a well-growing foreground or middle ground plant. Good lighting and sufficient CO2 supply are certainly necessary for good growth. Hottonia is highly recommended for unheated aquariums due to its distribution in the temperate climate zone. It is even native to some sites in Germany and is a protected species there. Due to the beautifully slit leaves, the water feather can be placed to great contrast in a carpet of Hemianthus Cuba or Micranthemum spec. 'Montecarlo'.
